  2. I hope you like westerns!

  3. Escapists #3
    Ms. Marvel #7
    Incredible Hulk #?

…and I think that’s it, actually. I decided months ago to switch to trades for Ex Machina and switch to trades/drop Ultimate X-Men and Captain America. (Is he seriously still fighting Nazis and Soviets?)

I never thought I’d be into Planet Hulk, but whaddya know, it’s an interesting read. It’s really only a Hulk story in the loosest possible sense.

Oh! I do really want to read “Pride of Baghdad,” but I don’t need to get it right this minute. If I’m patient, I can probably get it on sale.

  4. ESCAPISTS #3 (OF 6)

    ULTIMATE X-MEN #74
DRAGONLANCE CHRONICLES VOL 2 KURTH CVR A #2 (OF 4)
    WASTELAND #3 (MR)

Only 11 books this week? That is definitely below my average lately. And 2 of them I have dropped this month (UXM and Green Lantern) – these should be the last issues of those titles coming to me. Having said that, I have very high hopes for 5 titles on that list – The Escapists, Fables, Ex Machina, DMZ and Wasteland should all be great. I think I am actually looking forward to Wasteland the most! I really wish I had not started getting Annihilation. Most of the minis were boring to me and, while Issue #1 was a little better, I am still not looking forward to it. But at this point I might as well finish right?

And one question – what is this book?:

CIVIL WAR CAPTAIN AMERICA UNLEASHED VAR #1 (OF 7)

Is this Civil War #1 with a variant Cap cover or is it a separate Cap mini?

  5. ESCAPISTS #3
    PHONOGRAM #2
    ANNIHILATION #2
    CAPTAIN AMERICA #21
CIVIL WAR FILES (anything and everything Civil War, but no variant covers)
    MS MARVEL #7
    THUNDERBOLTS #106

Is Green Lantern Corp and continuing series? Is it any good? I have a Green Lantern itch, but I am not a Hal Jordan fan.

  6. it’s a new cover for civil war #1.

    52
    Ex Machina
    DMZ
    Annihilation
    Captain America
    Civil War Files
    Claws
    Ms Marvel
    Ultimate X-Men
    Wolverine Origins

Light week, at least on books I’m excited about. Think DMZ starts a new arc so that’s kind of cool. Ult X-Men should be pretty good and so should Civil War Files and Ms. Marvel. Origins can only get better. In in the same boat on Annihilation, already been gettting it so I might as well finish. Claws is the most embarassing thing on my list. #1 was a complete disaster but I can’t seem to drop Wolverine books no matter how much they suck.

By the way, Origins needs a new artist. Love Steve Dillon, who doesn’t, but seriously every character, including Cap, looks like a character from Preacher. Doesn’t feel right

  7. and thunderbolts

  8. 52 Week 19
    Captain America 21
    Civil War Files
    Incredible Hulk 98
    Ms. Marvel 7

The calm before the storm, as the rest of the month looks jam-packed. I don’t normally go for “Secret Files”-type tie-in money-grabs, but I also know I won’t be able to resist the CW Files when I see it in my stack. Admitting I have a problem is the first step.

  9. Annihilation #2
    Civil War Files
    Escapists #3
    Green Lantern #13
    Martian Manhunter #2

    WASTELAND #3 (MR) $2.99

Pretty low-key week again. I should really drop New Xmen, but the crazy x-fan in me won’t let me. It has been terrible since the new witers took over.

  12. Low key???

  13. hah yeah… wrong use of that term i guess. Lacklustre would be more appropriate.

  14. 52 Week #19
    Firestorm: The Nuclear Man #29
    Green Lantern #13
    Green Lantern Corps #5

    Is Green Arrow any good?.

    CIVIL WAR FILES
    MS MARVEL #7

    WOLVERINE ORIGINS #6

Light week I suppose. Wolverine Origins I’m pissed I’m still getting because it’s terribly slow!!!! This is the last chance for that book.

  16. Is Green Arrow any good?

I’m enjoying it a lot, but not everyone agrees with me. Also, I’m a political junkie so that helps my enjoyment of the book.

    CLAWS #2
    NEW EXCALIBUR #11
    WOLVERINE ORIGINS #6

Pretty light week, but a couple of really good books. Any week with two Brian K. Vaughn books should be a really good week. Other than that, I always looked forward to 52.

  18. The new Strange Girl trade. I just picked up the first one tonight because I’d heard good things and #2 comes out tomorrow. I read it cover to cover without stopping. It’s great. Check it out Image Comics 12.99

    52 WEEK #19
    GREEN LANTERN #13
PHONOGRAM #2 (if they’ve got it)
    ANNIHILATION #2
    ULTIMATE X-MEN #74
    WOLVERINE ORIGINS #6

A little light this week, but that’s okay. I’d like to get ahold of the start of the Strange Girl story. I wasn’t familiar with it until recently and read a bit of the background and was intrigued.

Looking forward to the next installment of Escapists. As dry as that series of anthologies got, I’ll still enjoy anything associated to Kavalier & Clay.

And I’ll add Annihilation to the pile of Annihilation books I’ve purchased but not read yet. Seriously, I have every Annihilation book so far and haven’t read a one of them. Once I finish this DC/Infinite Crisis back issue binge I’ve been on, I’ll start in on them.

About current Wolverine artists … I’m not big on the guy that’s been doing the Origins, but Humberto Ramos can keep drawing Wolverine forever for all I care. I’m typically not a big fan of that kind of art, but I think it works really well for that book. The exaggerated art really compliments the exaggerated character of Wolverine.

Finally, whatever happened to Civil War: Frontline? It was coming out, like, every other week it seems … Chalk it up to the main title delays? I was actually more than half interested in the stories.

  20. I couldn’t disagree with you more on the Wolverine art. I don’t really like the art for Origins but compared to the regular series right now, it looks great. I’m not a fan of the overexagerated art as you mentioned and I just can’t get used to it on Wolverine. On free comic book day this year, I ended up with a Runaways story that used that same art and couldn’t get through it despite the fact that it was written by Brian K. Vaughn, which I love.

I read somewhere that the team that’s doing the regular Wolverine series is going to be replaced after the next few issues and I can’t wait for that to happen.

  21. The main title will be taken over at #50 by Jeph Loeb and Simone Bianchi. And surprisingly it looks like Bianchi can actually draw Wolverine. http://www.simonebianchi.com/gallery.asp?D=comics&P=1
I cannot wait to be rid of Ramos. Wolverine does not look like Jay Leno, exaggerated persona or not.
Bianchi is signed on to do at least 6

  22. definitely pick up strange girl

  23. I’m in the weird position of both loving Humberto Ramos and not wanting him to take over any of the books I currently read. I have liked him on Wolverine; his style is an interesting counterpoint to grim/gritty.

He’d probably do a mean Carnage. Humberto Ramos’ “Carnage Vs. Mister Fantastic” miniseries, I would buy.

  24. For me, he misses Wolverine’s essence. He’s feral not goofy. Bianchi has a sketch of him on his site at the address I posted above that I think is completely great. He looks like more animal than man and enraged at that. I should warn though that he did draw him naked and as far as I can tell anatomically correct so caveat emptor.

Ramos’ Wolverine, every time I pick of one of those books, I get this voice in the back of my head that says: true story. kevin have you heard this? A man in iowa stuck his penis in a blender. true story true story. Apparently he wanted to make a cocktail…. oh jay you crazy.

    Thats about it.

  26. I guess I don’t see the Leno resemblance.

On the topic of current/recent Wolverine artists, I really really liked that one-off story that C.P. Smith did–#41, I think. I saw the Punisher X-Mas special in Previews, but haven’t heard if he’s doing anything else coming up. I’d like to see more from him–I think he’d do Daredevil well. Have you guys read anything else drawn by him that’s worth picking up?

  27. It’s all in the chin. It’s pretty noticiable as it does account for 85% of Ramos’ Wolverine’s body mass.

I agree on #41 that was really good. If you go here: http://www.comics.org/search.lasso?query=C.P.+Smith&type=penciller&sort=alpha&Submit=Search
you’ll see a partial list of his other stuff but it’s obviously not complete because it’s missing Wolverine 41. Nothing on there that really grabs me.

  28. 52 WEEK #19
    GREEN LANTERN #13
    ANNIHILATION #2
    CIVIL WAR FILES
    INCREDIBLE HULK #98

    THUNDERBOLTS #106
    ULTIMATE X-MEN #74
    WOLVERINE ORIGINS #6

Decided to pick up Annihilation after you guys said nice things about it on the podcast

  29. I’m actually starting to consider dropping a book based on the main character’s Civil War stance. I always liked Ms. Marvel, but when I read the book… am I supposed to be rooting for her to clean not-Spider-Woman’s clock? “You go, Carol! You keep that nice lady from seeing her young daughter!” The back half of this event has a lot of paying off to do.

  30. Yes I’m torn on Iron Man. Do I want to drop it because it’s terrible or because Tony’s a fascist?
    Not sure

  31. his facial hair inconsistencies are also troubling

  32. Maybe some days Tony wakes up and says “I feel like a mustache today!”. And other days he’s all about the goat. I am waiting with baited breath for fu-manchu Tony.

  33. It’s editorial oversight or something. He’s like Rosie from the Jetsons in that episode where she went crazy rolling around the house saying over and over again ‘a place for everything and everything in its place.’ The fascists don’t like the spontaneous change.

Let’s solve everyone’s problems at once. Here’s my pitch: Iron Man MAX. See then he’s out of the regular Marvel U and he gets to be the drunken letch that everyone would prefer. And he could shave his head and grow a chinstrap. I like it.

    Sounds better than Claws anyway.
    Right?
    whatever

    MS. MARVEL
    CIVIL WAR CASE FILES

  35. Oh man I forgot Escapists 3, dangit. I wish I never picked up Civil War Files, what a jip. this rag should be free. I mean Hulk isn’t even in Civil War and I paid 4 bucks for it, WHINE!!!
Also Does anyone think MS. Marvel art is goning down? Maybe I’m just in a bad mood. I might just give up on Super hero Books. Loveless trade rocks in so many ways.

  36. I think cowboys are going to be the new zombies.

  37. None of the titles listed above interest me at all, except maybe Jonah Hex. I’m losing my faith. It’s getting to the point where I’d rather read about comics then actually reading the comics themselves. Someone please help me.

  38. What are you reading now that is boring you? What titles are you buying regularly?

  39. I forgot to note that I only read Ex Machina and Fables in TPB format, so maybe I don’t have too much to complain about.

  40. Still broke. Not getting anything this week. The first order of business when I get paid though will probably be to get the Pride of Baghdad trade.

  41. The artwork is beautiful. Niko Henrichon might be the best artist vaughan has worked with. oh and the story’s pretty good too.

  42. Okay… go to Newsarama today and look for the article entitled “SLOTT’S NEXT (POST CIVIL WAR) GIG.” What is this article about? Why does it exist? I’m genuinely curious about Slott’s next gig– which is why I read the story– but pieces like this are Everything That’s Wrong With Comics. If the story can’t be written yet, why write it?

  43. That was a waste of space.

    So stupid.

  44. Yeah, that is dumb. As someone who works in a newsroom and overhears “can neither confirm nor deny” phone calls quite often, I would venture to guess it was written out of spite due to the unwillingness to talk. But because I work in a newsroom, I also know you don’t write stories out of spite because you can’t get anything out of a source.

Ugh. Comics and journalism. How typical, huh? Someone called me Jimmy Olsen yesterday.

  45. Do you have red hair and/or a bowtie?

  46. Unfortunately, no. But I am a photographer…

  47. …and kind of a dork.
