SDCC 2013: Walter Simonson Unleashes RAGNAROK and STAR SLAMMERS at IDW, Plus More Artist’s Editions

In 2014, Walt Simonson returns to the Norse sagas and lore he famously championed in Marvel’s Thor with an all new series at IDW. Simonson will write and draw Ragnarök and the rest of us will salivate over each and every issue.

From the press release:

“Scott Dunbier and I first talked about me working on a creator-owned book involving the Norse gods 15 years ago, but as many of my former editors can tell you, I’ve always regarded deadlines as useful fictions,” said writer/artist Walter Simonson, “So here we are… finally! All I can say is that I’ve loved the stories of the Viking gods since I was eight. I am thrilled that with IDW’s help and support, I’m launching an ongoing series of stories built around a new vision of some old friends. And enemies.”

In addition, IDW also has big plans for Simonson’s 1983 series Star Slammers, a monger to moguls story of intergalactic mercenaries turned businessmen. The publisher will offer a re-mastered, re-colored special edition volume as well as an Artist’s Edition. Star Slammers represents Simonson’s third artist edition style treatment after the award winning Thor collection from IDW and Alien: The Illustrated Story from Titan.

  1. I might be in the minority of this but I’m really excited for that Maxx Collection

    • ME TOO!!! Love Sam Keith!

    • I’m more excited for that Maxx edition than anything else here which is saying something cause all this sounds top notch

    • I mean I’m right there with all the Simonson stuff but I just have a personal connection to the Maxx that I don’t with other books. Because of the MTV show Maxx was probably the first creator owned book I read. He was also the only Superhero I could ever draw. Do you guys have that same type of connection?
