SDCC 2012: Finally, a New Trailer for 2009’s SOLOMON KANE! Wait…What?

Michael J. Bassett’s Solomon Kane film should already be on DVD and Blu-Ray about now, and steeply discounted. But the 2009 film has yet to make its way to North America. In the time since, co-star Pete Postlethwaite has died. I’d lost all hope we’d ever see this one without a region-free DVD player and way more money than I wanted to spend. But I’ve been tempted. There’s a lot of positive buzz on this one. Hell, it’s got a Rotten Tomatoes score of 83%, so apparently it was received favorably somewhere. Anyways, a new trailer was released in time with SDCC 2012, and we’ll finally get a glimpse at James Purefoy in the role of Robert E. Howard’s puritanical badass this September.

Who is Solomon Kane? Imagine the Quaker Oatmeal guy coming to terms with the fact he’ll be spending the afterlife in Hell. He may not have as many orgies under his belt as Conan the Barbarian, but Kane is just as capable and merciless a warrior as his Cimmerian cousin.

But don’t take my word for it.

Comments

  1. I remember looking foreword to tho movie back in 2009…

  2. Was that Jason Flemyng I spotted as the villain? (Is he the villain? This is the first I’ve heard of the movie.)

  3. Cool little bit with Jackie Earl Haley in it too. Decent bit of cheese all round.

  4. I’ve been waiting to see this trailer since I saw the movie back in 2010. Ha! 2.5 out of 5. Definetly a good Netflix rental. Mackenzie Crook (Gareth Keenan) has a great scene as a deranged priest.

  5. I always loved the Solomon Kane stories… here’s hoping!

  6. I saw this…a long time ago. Year and a half, maybe. I remember enjoying it quite a lot.

  7. Wow! This was actually on public tv here in Sweden a couple of days ago. Think the dvd is dirtcheap over here. Let me know if you want one Paul.

  8. I never realised this film hadn’t been seen in US cinemas – definitely see it, it’s a thoroughly entertaining fantasy romp.

  9. Hahaha.. this film has been on sky movies here in britain for years.. worst film ever.. so bad.. its cringeworthy.. north america your welcome.. enjoy! lol

  10. This one of those films that is better than it has any right to be. The first act is great, its a bit like Conan/Unforgiven.

  11. I saw this and thought it was quite good. I’d read the Robert E. Howard stories and enjoyed them, and I thought the movie captured the spirit of them well. 4/5 for me, maybe 4.5 even. I’ll definitely see this in the theater.

  12. I like that the reviews in this thread seem to vary so much as to be completely nonsensical to someone who hasn’t seen it.
