SDCC 2012: Katie Cook and Andy Price on IDW’s MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC

To quote Ponyville’s most awesome pony Rainbow Dash, “Ohmygosh! Ohmygosh! OhmyGOSH!!!” IDW announced at their panel yesterday that Katie Cook and Andy Price would be working on the first ever My Little Pony Friendship is Magic comic, due out in November.

In case you’re not a Brony or a Fillie, My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is a cartoon series on the HUB Network, produced by Lauren Faust (whose previous credits include The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends). It’s basically an awesome cartoon with enough heart and silly humor to entertain both kids and grown-up alike. I watch it on Saturday mornings while I’m eating Rice Crispies–as one simply does.

Katie Cook, who’s best known for her wacky webcomic Gronk and her cute, funny watercolors, will be writing the series and Andy Price (DC Legacy and Batman Archives) has been named artist. Both creators are big MLP fans, and I think their styles are perfectly suited for this project. Covers by the whimsically and wonderfully talented Jill Thompson and Stephanie Buscema have also been announced.

Here’s what IDW had to say about the comic.

Fans of the animated series will be excited to hear that the comics will stay true to its moral foundation, while providing themes and subject matter that older audiences can also appreciate. MY LITTLE PONY: FRIENDSHIP IS MAGIC will bring new adventures to the ponies as they help residents of Ponyville while learning memorable lessons about the meaning of friendship.

We’re not sure if it’s at all “official” but Price posted this pony page on Deviant Art back in May.

Comments

  1. yay !

  2. This is why I love digital comics, because I can easily purchase this without anyone giving this 28 year old bearded man any bizarre looks.

  3. I was wondering why Andy Price was suddenly drawing a ton of Pony’s over on his Deviant Art account…

  4. Tis a good day to be a brony!

  5. Ignoring the fact that I’m a fan of the series, this could be a nice avenue for young girls to discover comics.
