SDCC 2011 – TicketLeap = No Fail?!

James Sime over at Isotope Comics updated this weekend's blog post reports that TicketLeap actually did pull through, that everyone he knew — everyone! — that tried to get tickets were, indeed, able to get them.  And while the four day passes sold out (do we even talk about Preview Night anymore? Does that even exist?), it sounds like people were able to get the individual tickets as well.

For my part, I did indeed get an email confirmation for the single ticket that I bought, so I feel better, but, okay–what does this mean for everyone else??  I assume that if you entered in your credit card number and got a confirmation page you are good, but wonder if so many people were hitting the servers and giving up between page loads means that they'll release more seats later on?  As usual, the main web page (which, by the way, needs a total redesign) is less than helpful in this regard.

Glancing at the comments under the post I'm noticing that besides the atrocious grammar, there are still quite a few questions about the whole thing.  Indeed TicketLeap has posted a special blog post for SDCC fans to explain the situation, (technical link here, thanks @Belevrais!) explaining that the whole event sold out in seven hours, which, you know, is pretty freakin' ridiculous.  I just wish that the "you need to refresh" page had more information on it, explaining what was happening…people need more detail when these systems implode…

So, I don't know if this helps you or not. I hope that if you wanted to go you got your tickets. If not, let's hang out at Wondercon!

Comments

  1. Can you imagine the sales figures if every person who went to SDCC actually bought monthly comics

  2. I may not be able to make Wondercon this year and that makes me sad.

And holy crap sold out in seven hours that’s insane.

  3. I believe the detail you are looking for can be found here: http://ticketleaptech.wordpress.com/

  4. Nobody goes there anymore. It’s too crowded.

  5. @WilliamKScurryJr  I love the inherent contradiction in that statement.

  6. Well I was able to score 1 four day pass, but I wasen’t able to get another one for my wife.Hopefully more will become availiable or we might have to resort to some tomfoolery.

  7. I don’t consider a page telling visitors to come back when traffic has died down to be a victory.  Sure, come back when it’s not so busy, when all the tickets are gone!

I only got through because I was following comments on Comic-Con’s facebook page.  Refresh (F5) became my fan.  Took almost an hour to work through the various stages, but I bought single day passes for Thurs, Fri, Sat.  The four-day passes weren’t showing up as available whenever I got it to work.

But those frustrations, not to mention the two fails and brief test run in November and December, will be redacted so they can promote they SOLD OUT IN 7 HOURS!  Look how much we are liked!

They created the panic and frenzy, because they knew we’d all hit the feeder button.  This will be first time attending this conference.  Hell of a first impression.

  8. @r3v: Ah, credit the wise Lawrence Peter “Yogi” Berra for that wisdom.

  9. Ahhh if only San Diego was not 12,777.14 kilometers (7939.56 miles) from where I live. Oh well hopefully Supanova downunder is good this year, rumour that Christopher Lloyd is attending. I can imagine his initial thoughts when they asked him to come to Aus, “Oh my god they found me, I don’t know how, but they found me….”

Hey you reckon ifanboy would cover this one? Its only a 15 hour flight from LA???? and we are still in Summer here. Ok there’s been some flooing and bush fires but the city’s are fine 🙂

  10. Yogi may not have said it first, though, if he did indeed ever say it. Fascinating stuff here:

  11. Does that mean I get to be part of the cool set of people that remember the days so long ago (all of a couple of years ago) when you could purchase SDCC four-day passes months after they were offered?

  12. they need to move it to LA

  13. @redlibertyx I remember when you could buy them at the door, the day of the event…

  14. I want preview night for 2012 so I will be buying tickets for next year at this years Con. Most people should have anticipated this since preview night sold out @the con in 2010.

  15. Soon people will all buy the next year’s tickets at the current year’s con. Soon it will be impossible for any “outsiders” to get into the con because they will have sold out at the previous year’s con. Thus creating a situation where if you can’t go to the con you will be shut out of ever going.
