SDCC 2011: Spider-Man: Edge of Time and X-Men Destiny Dated

Activision has announced release dates for two new video games from the Marvel universe. First up is Spider-Man: Edge of Time, swinging onto shelves on October 4th, 2011. Edge of Time puts players in control of the Amazing Spider-Man and Spidey 2099 as they team up across dimensions to defeat… well the Big Bad actually hasn't been revealed yet, but I'm sure we'll get a few good one-liners out of the battle. Development duties are being handled by Beenox, the same folks responsible for last year's Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, and written by the creator of Spider-Man 2099, Peter David. Here's the new trailer, courtesy of Gamespot. (Their player is a little wonky, so you may want to go full screen). And yep, that's Katee Sackhoff as Black Cat.

Coming September 27, X-Men Destiny is a new Action-RPG from Silicon Knights, the creators of the amazing Eternal Darkness (and the not-so-great Too Human). Writen by Mike Carey, Destiny puts you in control of one of three all-new mutants just discovering their powers. As your character levels up, you'll be able to control how their mutant abilities develop and your decisions alter how the story progresses. Check out this new trailer for the game, featuring a cornocopia of X-cameos:

With Batman: Arkham City and Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 coming around the same time, it looks like the end of 2011 is going to be an embarrassment of riches for comic book-based video games.

Comments

  1. These both have me excited and REALLY wishing I had more time for gaming.  The RPG aspect of X-Men Destiny along with Silicon Knights peaked my interest (I actually really liked Too Human).

  2. Read the headline and thought the name of the game was X-Men: Destiny Dated. Dinner and a movie with Mystique’s precognitave blind ladyfriend would have been a very bold choice for a video game.

  3. The gaming press aren’t being too kind to the new X-Men game from what they saw at E3. I’ll be cautious about this one but man, i really like a kick ass X-men game. The best one they’ve done has been the Legends series and im just not a fan of that style of game. I just want a straight up, high quality action game!
As for Edge of Time, i absolutely LOVED Shattered Dimensions. it was loads of fun and im confident this next game will be equally entertaining. Can’t Wait!

  4. Xmen Destiny that mysterious game that was hinted at a while ago?

Seems interesting.  Don’t forget Silicon Knight made the original, and BEST, Legacy of Kain game.

  5. inFamous 3? with x-men!! Awesome!!

  6. I’m not sure what to think of the X-Men RPG. I really really want a good X-Men RPG, but it looked pretty rough at E3 from what I saw of the coverage. I didn’t think that’d be coming out this year, but maybe that was an old build of the game. I’m holding out hope.

Might get that Spider-Man game, but I’ll probably wait till it drops a bit in price, I will have enough to play with Gears 3 and Skyrim this Fall/Winter.

  7. @joshrichardson Both X-Men: Destiny and Spider-Man: Edge of Time are also coming out for Nintendo consoles.
