SDCC 2011: Marvel and DC Partnering with LEGO

Build it and they will come! To build Star Labs and Arkham and the Avengers Mansion!

In a move that might cause unctrollable spasms of joys from geeks and children alike, Marvel and DC have both announced at Comic-Con that they will be partnering with LEGO to produce a line of tiny pieces of plastic shaped and colored to look like your favorite Big 2 characters. No word yet on the Playmobil Hellboy set from Dark Horse.

From what's avaiable online it seems like Marvel is using this mostly for movie promotion whereas DC (while not ignoring the cinema) is really more excited by the teamup. Just take yourself to legosuperheroes.com for a ton of extra content like videos, photos and more; all DC based.

I think it goes without saying that these will have some pretty wide appeal amongst children and geek alike. I actually stopped playing with LEGOs right around when they started making Star Wars sets because the price point was beyond what I could justify paying. But for those of you who shelled out the cash you can now finally have the Millenium Falcon attack the Hall of Justice. And that seems like a good thing.

I could now post many photos of designs and charcters but I'll settle for just one with some links to more. These are good days to want to act like a kid again.

  1. it would be cool to own a set of those Marvel and DC characters….kinda like those Kubrick brand figures.

  2. Hopefully some more video games to come from both!

  3. Well there goes the rest of my money…

  4. I could not be more psyched for this! My son and I built the Death Star a few weeks ago and it is amazing. Lego makes really high quality products. They can be expensive, but if you look at it as money spent/amount of time you enjoy it (and if you are doing it with your kid, it is quality time for sure), these are great investments.

  5. Neat.

Although to be honest I was looking forward to this saying they were teaming up to do a Lego video game together. I don’t care how old I am now, I would buy a Marvel Vs DC Lego video game.

  6. The funny part is that this will actually force me to go back and buy some of the Star Wars pieces.  Maybe there will be a Hobbit set in the immediate future?

  7. YES!!! I’ve been dying to build some cool kick ass legos!!! Hopefully we’ll get Lego Asgard!!! Oh man this made my day!!!

  8. Lego Avengers Assemble!

  9. Didn’t they already do a tie in to Batman in the past?  It might have just been a movie tie-in, but I could have sworn they had play sets, and a Batmobile.  I’m still glad to see the rest, and what they do with it.  It would be really cool if they did some stuff with the “Ultimate Collector Series” that they did with Star Wars, I’d buy a high end Batmobile, or maybe an X-man Blackbird.

  10. @JohnNevets

They did generic Batman sets (and a really hard to find Tumbler set with the Dark Knight suited minifigure) and a Spider-Man 2 or 3 tie-in set

They already have a  high end Batmobile, but again, it’s generic and kind of lame. http://lego.wikia.com/wiki/7784_The_Batmobile_Ultimate_Collectors%27_Edition

  11. @mikeandzod21. Lego Asgard? You just blew my mind

  12. The Iron Man head is a mess. Probably should go back to the drawing board on that.

  13. This got me simultaneously excited for the Legos, and sad about the death of DC minimates.

  14. Lego Avengers and Lego JLA would be fun, Lego JSA for the die hards or just a secret or bonus/pre-order exclusive at least, c’mon back me up guys!
