SDCC 2010: Green Lantern and Suicide Squad Video Games in the Works

Lots of video game news out of San Diego this week. We can now add two more DC titles to the mix.

Today, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and DC Entertainmentannounced a Green Lantern game for most major platforms to coinside with next summer's film.

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters is in development for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii by Double Helix Games and for Nintendo DS by Griptonite Games.

Here's my thing. How do the constructs work? The big fun of being a member of the corps (and I know because I've done a few ride-alongs) is thinking up all the crazy shapes you can generate with that impossible cosmic energy. Even in a game of vast scope and sandbox abilities, how can you replicate the freedom of imagination. There's going to be some elvel of compromise, whether you earn or acquire constructs as you level up, or you have to choose from a few favorites. If you ask me, the best Green Lantern game is already out there, and it's Scribblenauts on the DS. Still, should be a bit of fun zooming around the Crab nebula in just your skivvies.

In related news, during his spotlight panel yesterday afternoon, Geoff Johns mentioned a "very violent" Suicide Squad game currently in development. I'll be playing as Bronze Tiger, and I'll button mash the bejesus out of you people.

Comments

  1. A SUICIDE SQUAD video game? When they haven’t been able to get a trade out of the early stuff? Color me surprised. Surprised, but excited. Looking forward to hearing more about this one. I’m crossing my fingers that it’ll be available for the Wii.

    @Paul: I’ll be Deadshot. Boom. You’re dead.

  2. The Suicide Squad game is kinda out of left field. I’m all for it though.

  3. As a long time gamer, I often groan at the prospect of comic/movie based games.  The Suicide Squad could be cool because they’re not well known, so a studio could really make it their own.

    The Green Lantern game will probably have stock constructs that you use, and it will probably control as horribly as the last two Iron Man games.  I’m sure it will have its fan base, but I will probably pass on that one.

  4. If they

  5. If you really can be Bronze Tiger, I will be a happy man.  I never thought there would ever be a video game of Suicide Squad. Next you’ll tell me there’s a Starman, Garth Ennis’ Hitman, and a Top 10 game in production, and then I would faint from too much awesome.

  6. The promo for the GL game is pretty gorgeous.

  7. do I really need to say who I will playing as?

  8. ill get both of these
