San Diego Staying Not Quite So Classy: Blogger Assaulted at SDCC

I ran across this story of a Los Angeles Times blogger getting assaulted while in San Diego for Comic-Con this year. While I think it’s important to remain cautious always, please don’t take this as anything typical when attending San Diego Comic-Con.

I’ve been to San Diego for Comic-Con every year but one since 2000, and I’ve never even seen harsh words exchanged between people. I always take note of how polite the crowd is to one another, and even while we’re all smooshed up against each other in the aisles, people are so civil, it’s actually unnerving to come back to New York where you hear “fuck you” about as often as “thank you.”

Still, it’s a major city, and like any of them, there are going to be morons mingling among the civilized. And the Gaslamp quarter, which is where most of your lodgings and eating will take place when at the convention, is full of all kinds of people, and there’s no shortage of alcohol, or whatever else people take when having fun. There are, however, plenty of police in the area when I’ve been there. So don’t let this story scare you, but rather just be a bit more informed because of it. I’ve yet to feel unsafe at all when walking around this part of San Diego at night.

But then again, I’m so huge and scary looking that anyone would be an idiot to want to mess with me, right?

  1. i just want to state for the record that i was not involved in said incident, despite having a shaved head.

  2. I need somebody the size of Josh to help me navigate through the con floor next year.

    Damn right.

Your huge-and-scaryness is the reason I seemed weird everytime I saw you this weekend. I was totally freaked out by your “I can kill a man with my bare hands” aura.

Even now, I’m a little intimidated.

    I know I’d be intimidated.

Oh nevermind, Josh posted this, not Conor. 🙂

  5. It’s all in the eyes.

  6. And the Spectacles of Death that you wear.

    Would Lasik diminish your power?
