Ridley Scott to Produce Matt Kindt’s ‘Mind MGMT’ for Fox

Mind MGMT by Matt Kindt

According to the Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox has secured the film rights to Mind MGMT, the ESPionage romp from cartoonist Matt Kindt (3 Story, Revolver) and Dark Horse. While the adaptation is not yet linked to a writer or director, Ridley Scott (Blade Runner, Prometheus) will produce the feature under his Scott Free logo along with Dark Horse’s own Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg.

Mind MGMT tells the story of Henry Lime and Meru, a spy and true crime writer respectively, caught up in the absurd, mysterious, often horrific world of government sanctioned psionic warfare and alphabet soup intrigue. The comic itself is ongoing, but there’s already plenty of fodder for great cinema, including planes full (and then not) of missing memories, creepy dolphins and no shortage of conspiracy. It could well be Men Who Stare at Goats, but great.

We’re keeping our eyes on this one.

Comments

  1. Loved Revolver and look forward to reading Mind MGMT in trade. As for the movie? I’ll reserve judgment for a later date.

  2. Heck yes! I love this book. Pretty glad I’ve been buying it from the beginning, looks like prices are skyrocketing on eBay already…?

  3. Not surprised at all that this is being opitioned, as I feel that there’s a lot of rich potential here for a cross-over hit. Until we hear more about the creative team though, I’m not sure what else to say. My biggest concern is keeping it true to the spirit, instead of watering it down into one long action chase scene (with a massacure or two) . . .

@longbowhunter: You should track down the single issues if you can, they include material that Kindt says won’t be collected in the trades, which, I suspect, is why issue prices are going up already. Either way, it’s one of the best series out at the moment & well worth reading . . .

  4. must…resist..urge..to..sell…issues

  5. Yay! Payday for everyone!

Seriously though, I hope this is better than Prometheus. That movie was shit.

For those who have the trade: Does it have the cool paper and the blue line around the page? Those were some of the things I loved about this series.

  6. This could be fantastic. The story certainly allows for a really great movie script and I hope Matt Kindt is getting some hard earned money from the deal so he can keep on producing the awesome. The book has been such a fun mix of “Men who stare at goats” type conspiracy with “Bourne Identity” action and chases, some “Minority Report” themes and so, so many mysteries and surprises. I wonder if they can translate the parts “in the margins” into a part of the movie as well. I’m thinking of subtitles for a foreign language that include hidden messages or big giant “mind pointers” i.e. letters hovering in the sky. Finger’s crossed.

  7. I’m also eager to see how the story translates to film. It seems to be such a “pure” comic – the telling relies on the physical medium as an essential component of the story. Obviously that’s possible with film, too, but in a different way. Hopefully Kindt will be involved pretty heavily, maybe even a way to annex the movie as just another part of the larger Mind MGMT story. Hmm…

  8. Oh noo! Although I am happy for this news, I am really bummed out that I sold the whole of the first arc on ebay as I usually do with monthly comics series about 2 weeks ago!

    Just my look

  9. These were the first books I bought digitally. Darkhorse has the first trades worth for a great price online, highly recommend it.

  10. Matt Kindt’s kinda blowin’ up right now!!
