Read comics, become a… murder suspect?

Apparently, one of the main suspects in the grizzly murder of a graduate student in New York City reads way too many comic books.

This is certainly an interesting twist in the case, but dedicating an entire article to it (no matter how short) smacks of the worst kind of Wertham-inspired journalism.

  1. *blinks* I can’t get to the article.

He’s a suspect? And they released this information to the press?

Man, I wish I could read the article.

  2. I updated the link with the new URL. It should work now.

  3. Well, it’s safe to say that this probably won’t go anywhere. It’s not video games, and we all know comics aren’t in the main view of the general public anyway. ‘Sides…who the hell is going to associate theft, drugs, and murder with a Green Lantern artist?

‘OH NO, SEE THIS PANEL? THIS PANEL DROVE HIM TO MURDER BECAUSE THE GREEN LANTERN OBVIOUSLY HAS SUBTLE UNDERTONES OF HATE FOR HIS FELLOW MAN. HE BECAME PARALLAX FOR GODS SAKE! GET JACK THOMPSON ON THE PHONE, HERE’S ANOTHER CASE FOR HIM!’

  4. Wait, wait, wait….it hasn’t been established that the bouncer actually read comics. His aliases are from comics – he could’ve gotten them anywhere. *eye roll*

Second of all, to scare all the readers, crimes such as “she was tied, gagged and her head wrapped in packing tape”, tend to be the advanced steps of a sociopath. Littlejohn’s a petty theif. Either he’s attempted to kidnap and rape other women in the past without getting caught or it’s not him.

St. Guillen’s murder shows someone who’s worked some things out and perfected his techniques. I would tend to think that Littlejohn, with his criminal past, would’ve been caught before committing the St. Guillen’s murder.

Can you tell I’ve read way too many books about criminal profiling and behavioral science?

He was arrested yesterday for a string of rapes around the city unrelated to this case.

  6. This case is really weird… granted I know nothing beyond reading the paper and watching the news, but I feel like the bartender was somehow involved. The DNA evidence is seeming to rule out Littlejohn (who has basically been tried and found guilty by the local media led by Rupert Murdoch’s NY Post), but it’s early still.

    This stuff fascinates me.

    Called it.

I tell you, behavior science is the way of the future, much like social engineering.

  8. think he listens (listened) to the podcast?

  9. NEW YORK – Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Sunday authorities would seek an indictment against a parolee with a long rap sheet, the prime suspect in last month’s gruesome slaying of a graduate student.

Blood found on the plastic ties used to bind Imette St. Guillen has been matched to a bouncer at the bar where she was last seen alive, the New York Police Department commissioner said.
