Project Rooftop: Captain America

You've heard of Project: Rooftop, right?  A collective of artists get together to redesign a classic superhero costume, and a good time is had by all.

Today they announced their next contest, and it is Captain America.  Choose Steve Rogers, Bucky Barnes, or whoever has worn the stripes, and rethink the look.  Contest entries can be sent to projectrooftop@gmail.com.

Check out some of these past contests, and gaze upon some of the recent redesigns on the site.

  1. Really cool site.

  2. these are great, now I have another site to check often

  3. To me, the weirdest thing about Steve Rogers’ new uniform is how much it evokes the Air Force rather than the Army. The color scheme is primarily blue and white, and the chest emblem is extremely reminiscent of the Air Force’s Enlisted Rank insignia (if you’re not familiar with it, check it out: http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Air_Force_enlisted_rank_insignia).

But then, I grew up in an Air Force family, so maybe the average person wouldn’t think the same thing. Still, it seems pretty unusual for a character so associated with the Army.

  4. Was there an issue where Steve Rogers got his new costume? If so, I must have missed it. What’s the deal with his force shield or whatever?

  5. Who wants to see me draw Steve Rogers in the American Maid costume? That will be my submission.

  6. This site was amazing. I’ll be keeping an eye on that one. Thanks so much for this!

The Batman designs struck me the most. As much as I love Dick’s current Quitely costume, the Batman section on Project Rooftop really made me wish they had branched out more and maybe added a dash more Nightwing to Grayson Batman’s look.

  7. Had no idea they did a Scott Pilgrim project!

  8. @TheHopelessGamer They sadly haven’t done a Pilgrim project/contest yet. They occasionally just highlight a particular artist’s take on a character or group. That is part of the mindnumbingly fantastic Joe Quinones’ take on most of the cast from SP. His Wallace Wells is perfectly done.
