Preview: SHADOWMAN #1 by Justin Jordan & Patrick Zircher

A Shadowman looms!

As teased earlier, the latest addition to the Valiant stable of heroes is Shadowman. Set to darken evil’s doorstep in November, the update of one of Valiant’s most popular properties comes courtesy of rising star Justin Jordan (The Strange Talent of Luther Strode, DC Comics’ forthcoming Team 7) and Patrick Zircher (Captain America, Thor: Ages of Thunder). And, damn, does it look gorgeous.

In addition to that spot varnish blackout cover from Zircher that we saw before, there’s this standard cover and couple of variants from Dave Johnson and Bill Sienkiewicz.

There’s a million dreams in the Big Easy. But now its worst nightmare is about to come true. As the forces of darkness prepare to claim New Orleans as their own, Jack Boniface must embrace the legacy he was born to uphold. As Shadowman, Jack is about to become to only thing that stands between his city and an army of unspeakable monstrosities from beyond the night. But is the mantle of Shadowman a blessing or a curse? And what is the true cost of his otherworldly power?

We’ve also got an exclusive splash page from the issue, featuring the all-new villain Mr. Twist! Aptly named, aptly terrifying. Valiant means business, and we definitely look forward to seeing more from Shadowman this fall.

Now, how’s about that stunning preview from Shadowman #1 by Justin Jordan & Patrick Zircher.

Comments

  1. Sold!

  2. I’m in. Luther Strode was so good, I’ll definitely give Justin Jordan another shot.

  3. Damn! That black and white art is great.

  4. Shadowman was a Valiant character I really wanted to like back when he was introduced in the 90s.
This redesign and his new villain look great. I’ll give it another go.

  5. I’ve never heard of this, however with that art and having read Luther Strode I’ll be buying this.

  6. I’m in because that preview art is absolutely gorgeous

  7. I can’t wait for this! Jordan’s work on Luthor Strode was OUTSTANDING and Zircher is knocking it out of the park!

  8. Zircher’s work on Cap recently has been pretty good, so I’ll definitely give this a shot.

  9. That is some fantastic art. I’m still not sure if I like the name Jack Boneyface or not haha.

  10. I really like the look of this character, he’s got the whole ninja/grim reaper thing going on, day of the dead type skull face, pouches and wrist/hand wraps work well too….looks awesome with all of it and the trench coat at the same time. This could be some fun supernatural insanity, the kind I like.

  11. I love the character design! That logo is unique and really interesting.

  12. Shadowman was my least favorite Valiant character, but the redesign and the art look stellar. I am in.

As long as there are no team ups with Aerosmith.

  13. Superman lost his red trunks. Did Jack lose his sax in the reboot?

  14. Sweet jesus, there is NO reason I can think of for why people shouldn’t get this book. It looks like Valiant’s got another homerun waiting to be unleashed.

Archer & Armstrong looks good, too, all of which gives me hope for the relaunch of my favorite Valiant character, Gilad Anni-Padda, the Eternal Warrior.

    • In the Valiant Free Comic Book Day issue they put out this year, there was a teaser for Eternal Warrior and Rai, so they are coming this winter, I think it advertised. I can’t wait for Eternal Warrior, who is tied for my favorite Valiant character with X-O Manowar.

    • It said that Rai is coming in spring of 2013.

  15. this looks fucking awesome! so glad to see Valiant comics back. can Ron, Josh and Conor continue to not care about these books. it seems to be getting more difficult in my opinion.

  16. Avatar photo Jamozk Ekhiss (@JamozkEkhiss) says:

Unfamiliar with Valiant, but this looks very interesting so I’ll probably get it.

  17. I have my comic store pulling all of the Valiant books for me. Just keeps getting better and really looking forward to Archer and Armstrong which is the next new #1 from Valiant out next month.

  18. …Just happy they kept his logo/symbol.

  19. I’ve really enjoyed the new Valiant series so far, all have been quality books. This one looks awesome as well. Valiant Relaunch > Marvel NOW!
