PREVIEW: Seven Brand New Pages From Bendis and Oeming’s TAKIO

Marvel/Icon have graced us with another glimpse at Brian Michael Bendis' and Michael Avon Oeming's Takio, the original graphic novel that I'm going to call "fun for everyone" because "all-ages" has too much baggage. The book is scheduled to be released on March 2nd, weighing in at 96 pages for under ten bucks. Live a little and preorder this one, won't you? We always talk about the need for new-reader-friendly, young-reader-friendly, female-reader friendly books, and making this one a success would be a great way to see more books like it make it to print.

Have I revealed something of a bias? Don't take my word for it; take a look at that creative team (which brings you Powers the rest of the time) and judge for yourself. Here's what Marvel has to say about the book:

On March 2nd, the powerhouse creative team of writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Avon Oeming, take the comics industry by storm with their first all-ages graphic novel – TAKIO! When two sisters from a multiracial, adoptive family drive one another to the brink of insanity, is there anything that can bring them together? Well after a one-of-a-kind, once-in-a-lifetime accident gives them real-life superpowers; the world’s first superheroes will be closer than ever! Perfect for comic fans of any age, Takio brings together Bendis’ acclaimed trademark dialog with Oeming’s fan-favorite art style for an action packed adventure like no other!

Comments

  1. I pre-ordered it from DCBS for five bucks, knowing nothing about it other than the team. Looks good to me.

  2. I love Oeming’s art on this – very straight-forward panel layouts and amazing storytelling. CAN NOT wait for this.

  3. oh my lord this looks so awesome

  4. Look at those colors, for Pete’s sake.

  5. Yup. I made a good call with the preorder. Looks great.

  6. This is the time for people to put their money where their mouth is. People keep saying they want to see this kind of content, but rarely support it. Here’s hoping Takio does well. Looks like a fantastic read.

  7. I didn’t realize this was a contained story. I thought it was in issues. That being said, i’m MORE likely to support something like this, knowing that its a one time purchase and a complete story. I really like the art and yes, those colors are great.
