PREVIEW: Clayton Crain & Clayton Henry Prove Heavy Ammunition for Valiant’s HARBINGER WARS

Quietly, steadily, Valiant Comics has built as colorful and cohesive a universe as any comic reader could dare hope to embrace.

With dedicated creative teams left to their own devises for much of their burgeoning runs, the publisher has quickly earned a happy little fan base eager to share their discovery with other readers looking for compelling science fiction. Valiant stalwarts have become increasingly vocal in the comments sections of iFanboy, so I figured you might be interested in their first major initiative, Harbinger Wars.

The event pits Bloodshot and Harbinger’s Peter Stancheck and Toyo Harada in an all-out war for the fate of the world’s wildly powerful Harbinger’s.

For decades, Toyo Harada’s Harbinger Foundation and the government’s own Project Rising Spirit have been waging a secret war over the rarest resource known to man – the unruly superhuman telekinetics known as Harbingers. Over the years, they’ve each collected a small army of these empowered children to inflict their agendas on the world. But now, the reformed Harbinger hunter known as Bloodshot needs to atone for his crimes – and he’s going to start by releasing two dozen of the most volatile Harbingers from their PRS prison and into the world.
Bloodshot wants to lead them. Toyo Harada wants to control them. And Peter Stancheck, a teenage renegade with immense powers of his own, wants to give them free rein. But the runaway children of PRS have their own ideas for the future…and, as the body count rises, the Valiant Universe will realize that power this immense cannot be contained. It must be exercised. Who will survive the Harbinger Wars?

Two of Valiant’s best and brightest, Joshua Dysart and Duane Swierczynski combine forces with two devastatingly powerful Claytons. Clayton Crain and Clayton Henry are poised to draw some of the best looking books on the shelves in 2013, let alone Valiant’s catalog.

Just take a gander (that’s Crain in color and Henry in black & white).

Comments

  1. Thanks Paul! Well said.Happy to see this in the spotlight. I’m really looking forward to this crossover, it’s shaping up to be pretty epic. Any fan of science fiction should give these a shot.

The art from both Claytons looks spectacular. Those colors on Craine’s are so vibrant.

X-O manowar has been a lot of fun as well.

  2. Man, I am so stoked for this. Harbinger has become one of my favorite ongoings. Bloodshot is a good read too, and is just batshit crazy.

For anyone curious, the only Valiant book I’ve found weak is Shadowman, and that even might get moving. You can get the X-O Manowar trade for $10, and I highly recommend it. I assume the other trades will be at the same price point, and they’ll all be worth it.

  3. That looks very purdy, can’t wait!
