Paul Talks Crime Comics on the Do Some Damage Podcast

A heads up for any fans of petty thievery, spent shell-casings, and lingering shadows: I recently had the pleasure of guesting on the Do Some Damage podcast along with host Jay Stringer and Joey Aulisio of Matinee Idles. The first of two episodes in a lengthy discussion of crime fiction with special attention to comics, is live right now. We touch on everything from Darwyn Cooke's Parker adaptations, to Jason Aaron's Scalped, European collections like Blacksad and Torpedo, early crime OGN's from Brian Michael Bendis, and much, much more. All together it ought to serve as a nice primer on the genre, and I hope you'll enjoy it. As a bonus, you get to hear me yammer on about my profound lust for Dennis Lehane's Kenzie and Gennaro novel series, Ben Affleck's burgeoning directorial career, and more. You'll also want to dig back in the feed for some great author interviews and discussion on all things illicit.

  1. I’ve not seen it on here before, but I’ve enjoyed your show.  You have a soothing voice…this is not me hitting on you.

  2. I recently played Mafia II. Its shit. That game would be shown in game design classes as example of bad design. And the writing is shoddy and ‘video game-y’ and voice acting is horrible.

What it did get right was the setting. Its beautiful post-war New York reminded me how much I loved crime fiction. Definitely will check out the podcast.

  3. that Joey is a dreamboat

  4. Was great to have Paul and Joey on the show.

We really covered a lot of ground, lots of love for SCALPED and CRIMINAL. The second episode will have some debate on SIN CITY, and some talk about great crime films.

  5. Cool, thanks Paul – downloading now

  6. Looking forward to these and Paul and Dave have a great podcast as well. You’d be doing yourself a diservice if you weren’t downloading it. Check out their awesome Stories one and their Social Network episode is pretty great. They did a comedy one too but they had some jerk for an improviser on there 😉

  7. Nice one Paul. I love the Kenzie & Gennaro series as well (I hear Lehane is writing a new one at the moment). You have fine taste sir! ; )
