Original Superman II Script

Rich Johnston has posted a link to the original shooting script for Superman II that was being used before Richard Donner was booted off the film.

I’ve gone on record many times as being not much of a big fan of Superman II. I feel like there was a great movie in there that got buried under a lot of crap. I am very interested in seeing if the movie I thought was in there is in the script.

  1. I hear the plastic wrap “S” keeps the bad guys fresh for at least a month in this version.

  2. What was that “S” stuff about? Was there ever anything like that in the comics?

  3. That’s something I’ve been wondering about since San Diego, whenever I read anyone exclaiming, “Oh boy! Richard Donner is doing Superman comics! I cannot wait! I’m counting the minutes, breathing into a paper bag!!”

I hear that and think, “Wait plastic wrap ‘S’ Richard Donner? Make-time-go-backwards-by-flying-round-and-round Richard Donner? Super-roofie-kiss Richard Donner? Afro-and-ascot-Lex-Luthor Richard Donner? Are these the sorts of things diehard Superman readers have been clamoring for?” I do not Get It; I’m not even sure I would know where to find It.

    That’s all gold.

Well, not all of it – but I blame a lot of the badness on the script. The original draft of Superman: The Movie featured a cameo by Kojak saying “Who loves ya, baby?”

    Love afro-and-ascot Lex!
