The shipping list is up — take a look and tell us what you’re going to be picking up this week!

I’m not sure what I’m looking forward to the most anymore. It used to be anything Civil War related, but the delays have really taken the wind out of my excitement sails.

(Be advised, this thread will probably be closed to comments sometime on Wednesday.)

Ugh, Conor, reading Runaways in digest is horrible! I did it for the first couple of digests, then went back and bought the comics. It is extremely annoying how they refuse to release it in regular trade form. I refuse to buckle and simply buy the HCs.

It literally has been two months I believe since I’ve been under 10 books. Cool.
Runaways is released in digest format to get teens, who the story is aimed at, to connect it with Manga which they are larger more familiar with and accepting of. It’s a marketing ploy to get younger people into comics. I for one, love getting trades for $6 after discount so I’m not bitching.

  4. Captain America #23
    Daredevil #90
    Heroes For Hire #3
    New Avengers #24
    52 #25
    Action Comics #844
    Ion #7

  5. PLANETARY #26

    CIVIL WAR CHOOSING SIDES
    HEROES FOR HIRE #3
    NEW AVENGERS #24
    STAN LEE MEETS THING

I admit Civil War is far less exciting now than when Peter unmasked, but I am istill buying everything related to it. My store sold out of the second issue of Phonogram before I could get it. So wait, how does Planetary fit in with the non-rebooted Wildstorm universe? I guess I just answered my own question.

  6. 52 WEEK #25
    ACTION COMICS #844
    BOYS #4
    JACK OF FABLES #4
    SEVEN SOLDIERS #1
    CAPTAIN AMERICA #23
    LOVELESS #12
    DAREDEVIL #90
    NEW AVENGERS #24 CW
    NEXTWAVE AGENTS OF HATE #9
    ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #101

Really looking forward to New Avengers, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Next Wave. I might have been excited about Seven Soldiers if I could remember a goddamn thing that happened since the last mini came out. What took so long?

  7. Action Comics #844
    Captain America #23
    Civil War: Choosing Sides
    Moon Knight #6
    New Avengers #24
    Ultimate Spider-Man #101

Daredevil: Devil Inside and Out TP

  8. whats this? both seven soldiers and planetary out this week?!? i still won’t believe it til i get to the store wednesday

    52 WEEK #25
    ACTION COMICS #844
    BOYS #4
    PLANETARY #26
    SEVEN SOLDIERS #1
    CIVIL WAR CHOOSING SIDES
    DAREDEVIL #90
    NEW AVENGERS #24 CW
    ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #101
    X-MEN #192

  9. Has anyone read any of the Army Of Darkness series? I was thinking about picking up AOD Vs. Re-Animator, because, who doesn’t love a good Re-Animator story.

  10. These mos def:
    52 WEEK #25*
    ACTION COMICS #844*
    ION #7
    JUSTICE #8
    PLANETARY #26
    DAREDEVIL #90 *
    NEW AVENGERS #24
    ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #101

    *=anticipation

    And maybe these two, too:
SUPERMAN BATMAN ANNUAL #1 – Haven’t read any of the Supes/Bats books, so maybe this is a good time to jump on?
CIVIL WAR CHOOSING SIDES – I used to be a total sucker for crossover stuff and have kind of grown out of it with this CW event, so this only sorta appeals to me.

  11. Let’s see here….

    52 #25
Justice #8 (God, why am I STILL BUYING THIS?! I should have just waited for the trades…)
Captain America #23 (I love this run on Cap. Been readin’ it since the Winter Solider started.)
Dardevil #90 (Oh Matt Murdock, you country-fleeing scamp.)
New Avengers #24 (I think this is the first time we see the Sentry get into the CW? Aside from Wolverine last week, of course.)
    Ultimate Spider-Man #101 (It’s Spider-Man. Awesome :O)

  12. Ugh, Conor, reading Runaways in digest is horrible! I did it for the first couple of digests, then went back and bought the comics. It is extremely annoying how they refuse to release it in regular trade form. I refuse to buckle and simply buy the HCs.

I’ll be honest, I don’t mind the digest sized books. Runaways, Scott Pilgrim, Mary Jane, A History of Violence, Road to Perdition… all are good digest sized reads.

  13. don’t forget about the sin city digests

  14. Here’s my list

    52 #25
    ACTION COMICS #844
    JSA CLASSIFIED #18
    7 SOLDIERS #1
    TRIALS OF SHAZAM #3
UNCLE SAM AND THE FREEDOM FIGHTERS #4
    CAPTAIN AMERICA #23
    DAREDEVIL #90
    NEW AVENGERS #24
    X-MEN #192

And perhaps I’ll buy the Choosing Sides thing, if only for the Iron Fist stuff (and I’m kind of a sucker for Howard the Duck).

I’m kind of over the whole Civil War thing by now, so my prediction for the POW (and it NEVER works this way, you can’t predict – it’s almost like jinxing) is Action Comics #844 (I really want that to be awesome, but I’m afraid it won’t be) or 7 Soldiers #1. Yeah, it took forever, but that has been Morrison’s best non-JLA work so far.

Maybe an outside shot for Daredevil? That’s always good. What are the odds X-Men reverts to crap this week?

  15. It’s not only the size, but the Marvel digests are printed on very low grade paper, and the colours are very dulled down. The sin city ‘digests’ are larger and better quality than the Marvel ones, and road to perdition and history of violence are also high quality prints. I do like the price of the Marvel digests, and can see why they’d be attractive, but I wish Marvel would put out regular sized trades as well.

  16. I didn’t realize Runaways was collected in a digest format until I saw it at a store the other day. I speculate it is a direct attempt to attract the younger, sometimes female, sometimes rabid manga readers who are used to buying and reading stories collected in that format (except not backwards)?

I’ll admit, I like the idea. And remember they’ll always print the Bible on crappier paper than your funny books.

  17. Aaron, you are correct – When Runaways first came out, it was part of the failed Tsunami line from Marvel and was really the only success from that line, but its future (if memory serves) was still iffy. They released the first trade as a digest size to attract the smaller audience, and then I believe demand and interest for the book skyrocketed and they not only continued the digest format for the rest of the series and the 2nd volume, but also put our a pretty nice hardcover for those of us not into the smaller size.

This was just actually a recent topic of discussion amongst the iFanboys…strnage how sometimes a topic seems to be in the water waiting for discussion…

  18. 52 Week 25
    Captain America 23
    Civil War Choosing Sides
    Daredevil 90
    New Avengers 24
    Seven Soldiers 1

I’m planning to maintain Pull List Discipline this week, and resist picking up anything else on a whim – since I’ve totally blown the monthly entertainment budget already. Depsite the delay, I’m most looking forward to 7 Soldiers and some JH Williams layouts. I think we’re overdue for Cap as PotW. Not sayin’, just sayin’.

  19. I am probably getting the YA hardcover and the new Runaways trade.

I really do like the digest size. I’m a total Runaways whore though. The only comic I buy in singles, digest and Hardcover. The digests are great for lending out and trying to get people hooked. They don’t look as daunting to non-comic readers.

The quality of them is certainly suspect, but I seem to remember thinking that the last one was a little bit better…

  20. God, what else was a Tsunami book? Skottie Young’s Human Torch? Daniel Way’s Venom… ooh, Sentinel wasn’t bad. That got saved by digests too, sort of.

    Buying this week:
    Cap #23
    Daredevil #90
    Exiles #87
    New Avengers #24
    Nextwave #9
    Spider-Men both spectacular and ultimate
X-Men #192 (this arc is coming to an end soon, right?)

Buying, causing the shop clerk to look at me and visualize me turning into a giant cartoon sucker:
    Civil War Choosing Sides

Howard the Duck, never say I don’t love you.

  21. I have the Sentinel digests, the Runaways one, the Gravity digest and Arana. I read most of the Emma stuff as well as the first couple Mary Jane trades. They have some pretty cool all ages kinda stuff on there.

Ah well, at least we know that Runaways won’t be leaving digest form any time soon.

  22. This is pretty cool. I was wasting some time screwing around with the Internet Wayback Machine and I found this snapshot of a thread about Green Arrow on iFanboy in Feb 2001
    http://web.archive.org/web/20010503171500/www.ifanboy.com/view.cgi/articles/982734769.html

  23. 52 Week #25
    Action Comics #844
    Ion #7
    Secret Six #5
    Seven Soldiers #1 (Maybe)
Supergirl and the Legion of Super Heroes #23
    Superman/Batman Annual #1 (Maybe)
    The Trials of Shazam #3
Uncle Sam and the Freedom Fighters #4

I’ll wait to see what the reaction’s like to SS#1 & the S/B Annual before i decide to get them or not.

Looks like a pretty decent week though, i’m always looking forward to 52, and Action Comics and Ion should be good to.

    Wizard #182

  24. I just bought the first hardcover of Runaways for a cousins thirteenth birthday. I considered the digests, but then I figured entering your teens is significant enough for a hardcover. When I started with comics it was around that age and it was the teen heroes that I enjoyed the most. My choices Young Avengers, a gateway drug to the Avengers mythos, or Runaways, which could lead to other interesting BKV reads. He seemed somewhat enthused by the gift.

  25. Runaways is probably a better choice for a newer reader. Gateway drug and all

HEROES FOR HIRE #3 CW $2.99

RUNAWAYS VOL 6 PARENTAL GUIDANCE DIGEST TP
