Last week might have been the “big” week with all the name releases, but this is the week I’ve been looking forward to for sometime. Mainly ’cause of Criminal–has there been a heavier favorite for PotW? The sleeper here is The Other Side mini from Vertigo, a ‘Nam story with (I’m sure) a twist. Previews were intriguing. Very excited for this week overall.

14 books is a medium-sized week for me. Definitely looking forward to Criminal and Doctor Strange. I always look forward to Y The Last Man. And I am curious about Other Side – it had an interesting solicit so I am giving it a shot, like I do with almost every Vertigo book. Oh, also happy that Winter Men is coming out, although I am definitely going to have to go back and re-read the previous issues since it’s been so long. And finally, goodbye and good riddance to Aspen comics – this should be my last book from them – I decided enough was enough a couple months ago and stopped ordering them – I think this was my last remaining book on order.

I get all my current stuff from them now, which means I get my books a little late. I am getting all my back issues from mycomicshop.com. They have everything, but they can’t match comic hole on new issue prices. Of all the marvel books, I am enjoying the current Hulk story the best. It’s under the radar, it’s awesome and better than the whole civil war thing (I do like civil war, Hulk is just better). I am dropping Birds of Prey, Checkmate and Occult Crimes…… IMHO they suck.
I have been going through a lul in comic interest. This has to do with my recent Navy deployment where I was in close proximity to heavy duty equipment and people including seals. Seeing the real thing up close and personal made captain america, sheild and all that seem pretty lame. I read Amazign Adventures of K&C while I was gone. Great, great book as touted here on iFanboy. I couldn’t put the book down from around page 200 on. The end of the book left me wanting though. I would have liked it to come full circle, but it didn’t. there is a big time gap between the end and the first page.
Something for Ron: I did see X3 two more times while underway. you’re right. It just plain sucks. The first time I saw it, I was with my children (5 and 8). They were amazed and loved all the action. I’m sure this colored my first impression.

There are a lot of books this week that I started buying months ago, thinking, “Oh, it’ll be fun!” that make me sigh now. A number of these might not actually make it out the door.

I literally thought, “Hmm. Am I getting that?… Well, it is going to be Pick of the Week. I better try it.”
Anybody ever read Spider-Girl? The first digest was okay, but I’m hoping it has evolved a bit since then. All the captions were written as if the narrator was narrating Spider-Girl’s story to Spider-Girl… wears thin in a big hurry.
One more thing: When I got back I had six weeks worth of books from comichole to catch up on. One of the last books I read was New Avengers #23. Looks like spider-woman is joining cap. This is fine, but on page 6 or so there is this two page spread with spider-woman being attacked by sheild people. This is fine too, but there are 4 BLATANT, panty crotch shots on that page. Now this is juvenille. I can imagine 12 to 14 year-olds thinking this is hot, but to me it’s just stupid. ‘nothing wrong with drawing a nice female figure, even over exagerated. Again this was just stupid. Is anybody here turned on by cartoon women? If you are, you need to get out more…
Everyone is assuming the POW will be Criminal, but don’t discount Dr. Strange and Ant-Man…
Also, don’t discount that Ron is crazy.
Actually my preliminary bet for POW is Y The Last Man #50. Most people here read it in trade I think but this is the issue that is supposed to explain why the men were all killed. Criminal may end up as POW but I doubt it will blow it away – I love YTLM.
I should clarify – YTLM will probably be my personal POW, not the ifanboy one. My money is defnitely on Criminal there.
But why doesn’t Conor want to buy Ant Man?!

I’m curious to see BKV’s take on Dr. Strange. Also looking forward to issue 3 of The Boys.
Anyone know if Giant Size Wolverine is just reprints is it new material?
Managed to forget putting Criminal on my list but I’ll definitely give it a read.

I couldn’t be more excited about getting Criminal this week. I haven’t anticipated a book like this since Queen and Country came out last. No way am I buying Fantastic Four anymore. Not until they get a new writer on it. Not interested in the JMS. And I’m done with any CW tie-ins that I wouldn’t already get. By and large just too disappointing.

There is a new writer coming soon. Dwayne McDuffie. Joe Q spilled it on the last Joe Fridays. He didn’t say when but did say he would be “stepping into the middle of this little story we have called Civil War” so that tells me it will not be too long.

I am so glad to see that there is some new Dr. Strange content coming out. He has always been one of my favorite characters and we hardly ever get to see him. Just the occasional apperance in random titles. I am really glad to see that alot of people plan on buying the book and that they have some good like BKV on it too. It would be great if this lead to a Dr. Strange monthly. But that is just my opinion….I know some ppl aren’t really into the whole mystical/magic realm. I just happen to enjoy it.
