  5. Is anyone else buying Mouse Guard? I just noticed it’s on the shipping list for this week but my store got it last week. I’ve been buying it for my girlfriend and it’s actually really good.

  6. Is UNCANNY REALLY that bad?
I haven’t read the last one yet but I loved the two before it.

Fred: 12 books is a light week? I challenge.

I wish they’d giddyup and finish this Ex Machina story and collect it. This is the first book I’ve “switched to trades” for, and the wait has not been good for me.

  8. Sure you’re buying it for your ‘girlfriend’. Wink.

I saw the first three issues at my local shop (3rd printing on the 1st issue), but I’m gonna wait for the trade. If it weren’t for Wizard, I wouldn’t even know Mouse Guard existed. God bless you, Wizard. MG just cries out for an animated series, don’t you think?

  9. Superman Confidential
    Nightly News #1
    52
    Criminal #2
    Detective Comics
    Ex Machina
    Irreedemable Ant-Man #2
    JLA
    Jonah Hex

Hey, look, no Uncanny for me! It’s not really bad, I just don’t care.

I want to read Mouse Guard, but I missed the early ones, and want to get the collected edition when it comes out.

  10. Well, since you asked…

    Ex Machina #24
    Justice League of America #3
    Mystery In Space #3
    Criminal #2
Irredeemable Ant Man (giving it one more shot)
    Uncanny X-Men #480
    Local #7

  11. not as light as last but not the 16 or so that I have been pulling before that. Also it’s light because a few of these books I’ll read but not actually purchase(AntMan, What IF, American Splendor)

  12. Uncanny is one of my favorite books right now. I’m loving it. But I do think you have to look at it in a different light than Astonishing (my other favorite book). Brubaker has said that he’s going for a long, epic arc similar to the Lord of the Rings. So there’s more of a fantasy feel to this book. If you look at it like that then the things that seem out of place start to fit in.

So yeah, I really like this book. Shame on you, Conor, for dropping it.

  13. So yeah, I really like this book. Shame on you, Conor, for dropping it.

Josh is dropping it too! I’m sorry – but it’s boring.

    PLEASE RELEASE #1

REX MUNDI GUARDIAN O/T TEMPLE VOL 1 TP DH ED
GOTHAM CENTRAL VOL 4 THE QUICK AND THE DEAD TP

Dammit. 20 books and 2 TPBs this week. This is out of control. I just made the decision to cut back last week but that won’t take effect for a couple months because of the online ordering process. Of course, by cutting back I mean 60 books a month instead of 80, but whatever. I also noticed how few Marvel books I get any more. Pretty much Brubaker, Bendis, Millar and BKV is all I get from Marvel and everything else I’ve dropped. I used to be all Marvel. Oh well. Also, my superhero to nonsuperhero book ratio is getting smaller and smaller – probably only 30-40% superhero anymore. Interesting.

As far as this week, looking forward to Killer, JLA, Local and Criminal. Very interested in Nightly News as well. Rex Mundi and Gotham Central are always a welcome addition to the bookshelf.

  17. Hmmm… maybe I’ll buy Nightly News #1. Depends on how I feel about the art when I look at it tomorrow.

  18. The Nightly News sounds interesting– one guy did the whole thing by himself– but I read it’s comprised entirely of double-page spreads. Hmmm.

    STRANGERS IN PARADISE #85 $2.99
    WORMWOOD GENTLEMAN CORPSE #4 $3.99

  20. I’m fully expecting Avengers Next and What If to be complete trash, but I’m buying them both anyway because I’m an idiot.

  21. A man after my own heart. I find myself angrily putting Daniel Way and Humberto Ramos’ children through college, but I’m an idiot so I can’t do anything about it

  22. Im enjoying the Uncanny issues and X men aswell.

  23. Yeah! Me too DT! well except for adjectiveless – but I blame Bachalo for that

  24. MOUSE GUARD is phenomenal. It could have easily been a POTW any of the weeks it came out. But, since the guys are in a rut, it’ll either be a Dini DETECTIVE, Brubaker CRIMINAL, or Johns JLA. 2 wildcards are HULK #100 on a lark or if Conor is picking, SUPERMAN CONFIDENTIAL #1…

  25. Well now Patrick, I wouldn’t say we’re in a rut, rather slaves to what comes into our stores..my store is a smallish one in the suburbs and very conservative in their ordering…since I don’t pre-order via Previews, I’m stuck with what they get in.

I’ve been tracking Mouse Guard since i heard about it (around issue #2) but have been unsuccessful in finding back issues further back than issue #3, so I decided to wait for the trade..

  26. It occurs to me I never read my most recent X-Men. I’m not on the edge of my seat for each chapter, but you know, I’ve read some bad X-Men in my day, and luckily this ain’t it. I still sort of care, if only because I remember Chuck Austen.

I’m eagerly looking forward to the collected Mouse Guard… but has it been announced that Mouse Guard is being collected?

As for ruts, I think it’s amazing how much diversity of taste is represented on this page. I don’t have more than two purchases in common with any of the iFanboys.

  30. I wouldnt mind a different artist on the abjectiveless Xmen like Scott Eaton or Sean Chen.

  31. Bachalo’s good.

  32. 52 WEEK #26
    AMERICAN VIRGIN #8
    DETECTIVE COMICS #825
    EX MACHINA #24

    CRIMINAL #2

    SHE-HULK 2 #13
LOCAL #7 – so looking forward to this.
    MOUSE GUARD #5

Uncanny X-Men is also getting dropped by me this week, so it’s cool guys. I’m personally trying to catch up on all the Essential X-Men trades in hopes that I’ll have an idea of what’s going on in the main books – but, you know, I’m thinking that won’t help all that much.

  33. Rut!? What rut?

We do pick different Bendis and Brubaker books each week. What more could you want.

Avengers Next? Friends don’t let friends buy comics written by Tom DeFalco!

As far as Mouse Guard, there doesn’t seem to be an official announcement of a trade, but there are 6 issues, and it’s the hot buzz book, so I can’t imagine it doesn’t get collected. But we probably won’t see it for 6 months.

  34. I stand corrected. Slightly. The publisher’s site lists the hardcover collection release date as TBA.

  35. DC

    52 Week #26 $2.50
    Blue Beetle #8 $2.99
    Jonah Hex #13 $2.99

    Beyond #5 $2.99
    Criminal #2 $2.99
    Irredeemable Ant-Man #2 $2.99
    Uncanny X-Men #480 $2.99

Jonah Hex and Criminal both in the same week? Joy of joys.

I’m still getting Uncanny X-Men for now, but I’m just not all that into it as I was when it started. I’m starting to think that I can only buy X-Men books in trade. If this one isn’t a draw dropper its off the list.

  36. 52 # 26
    JLA # 3
    Beyond #4
    Incredible Hulk #100
    Irredeemable Antman #2
    She-Hulk 2 #12
    What if Avengers Dissassembled
X-Men Age Apocalypse Complete epic Volume 4
    Uncanny X-men #480

  37. I just read the last issue of Uncanny, and it ruled. You guys are SO WRONG.
I don’t even know who half the characters are. IFANBOY HAS IT ALL BACKWARDS.

  38. ^^^^ I guess The Dude DOESN’T abide.

-Irredeemable Ant Man #2 (Am I the only guy who genuinly liked that book?)
    -Incredible Hulk #100
    -Justice League of America #3
    -Criminal #2
-Uncanny X-Men #480 (I’m giving it one last shot…what the hell, it’s a light week.)

Only 5…good…I need a little break so I can finally read Pride of Baghdad and Marvel: 1602.

  39. 52
    Criminal
    Detective Comics
    Incredible Hulk
    Irredeemable Ant-Man
    Jonah Hex
    Justice League of America
    The Other Side

I’m only kidding myself by not listing Superman Confidential, since as soon as I flip through Sale’s art, I’ll have to buy it; I’ll also give Nightly News a glance. And no, Darron, you’re not the only one who genuinely liked Ant-Man, I thought it was totally fun.

  40. whoa whoa whoa Dude – don’t go lumping ALL of iFanboy as having it wrong. I agree it’s been good, way better than in a while.

You know I’ll never drop Uncanny. They’ll have to pry the latest issue out of my cold dead hands.

  41. I liked Ant-Man. Its fun. Nothing deep, but not everything has to be raping and shooting and end of the universe (be it global or personal). Its just fun.

  42. Three books. All DC.

    JLA, 52, and Superman: Confidential.

I love weeks like this. It gives me some money to spend on OTHER stuff.

    …LIKE VIDEO GAMES.

  43. Speaking of X-Men, what was up with that Final Fantasy guy with the huge honkin’ sword? Looks like a future winner of the “It Seemed Like A Good Idea At The Time” Award.

  44. Not even a trade out I’m buying this week.

So, I will get Final Fantasy XII and Marvel Ultimate Alliance.

    Whee.

  45. Ron still rules.
    That Final Fantasy sword rules.

  46. Because I’m broke I should avoid the comic shop all together. Because I’m stupid I’ll be buying
    -Uncanny
    -Criminal
    -Incredible Hulk
    -Ex Machina

  47. We need a game related thread

  48. Marvel Ultimate Alliance = Absolute Fun.

Especially if you got a friend or two.
    (And an Xbox 360 :D)

  51. I was actually out of comics for a while since quitting my job to take care of my daughter while my wife goes back to work, and I had a stack of X-Men comics I hadn’t read yet. I really liked Grant Morrison’s run on New X-Men… after coming into it hating the art and the writing for the first few issues. When I finally got to read the Carey and the Brubaker stacks of X-Men comics, I enjoyed them a lot more than I thought I would after reading the first issue or two when they first came out. The ends of the last two issues left me wanting more, which I think came with reading a small stack of them at once instead of piecemeal.
