‘Battlestar Galactica’ Comic… Not Too Frakkin’ Bad?

I just wanted to take a second to plug an unlikely book. If you’re a fan of the new Battlestar Galactica show, then you might want to check out the first issue of the comic book, out this week. The only reason I bring this up is that for once, an adaptation seems like it might actually be done well, and this is coming from someone who has a very bad relationship with licensed property comics. But based on the $.25 issue #0 a while back, this could be pretty good.

Of course, if it sucks, don’t blame me.

(Oh, and this is our 1,000th article entry!)

This has to be my favorite new show since discovering The Wire, so I certainly didn’t want to see that sullied by bad comic adaptations, but of what we’ve seen so far is any indication, we might be in for the rare treat of a quality accessory to the fantastic TV series.

And if you’re not watching the show, you should be. If you go to the main page for the show, you can watch a whole episode for free.

  1. Happy thousandth. What do I win?

  2. I will be getting this – I agree that the #0 issue has my interest peaked, and this long hiatus between seasons has me starved for anything BSG.

  3. Man, it feels like it’s been a while, doesn’t it? October!!!!!

  4. I’m never going to catch up. Season 2.5 comes out on DVD later this month, but I doubt Season 3.0 will be out before 3.5 starts…

    *weep*

  5. I have much love for BSG, but the 25 cent comic just didn’t do it for me. The writing isn’t bad, but the art is just atrocious. The penciller could never nail a likeness for the characters, making Edward James Olmos’ face look like a constantly evolving sag of flesh (an improvement, some might say).

Can’t wait for season 3, though! I still vividly remember the last 10-15 minutes of the last epidsode… holy crap is all I can muster.

  6. Just Tivo all the new episodes as they come out and keep them. Then when you’re through the DVD’s, you’re good to go. You might even catch up to the shows on air. That’s what I did.

  7. Sadly, I record so much TV in HD that I probably wouldn’t have room to keep a whole season for that long.

  8. Trust me, you won’t need to keep them on your DVR for long. Once you get the DVDs you will blow through them in 2 weeks tops and will be ready for Season 3.

  9. Oh, wait! I was totally wrong! Season 3 starts in October and 3.5 in January! I’m all set. I’ll get the DVDs at the end of September and blow through them before October 6th.

    Wooo!

  10. huzzah!
