In Spider-Man 3, based on the legendary Marvel Comics series, Peter Parker has finally managed to strike a balance between his devotion to M.J. and his duties as a superhero. But there is a storm brewing on the horizon. As Spider-Man basks in the public’s adulation for his accomplishments, Peter becomes overconfident and starts to neglect the people who care about him most. His newfound self-assuredness is jeopardized when he faces the battle of his life against two of the most feared villains ever, Sandman and Venom, whose unparalleled power and thirst for retribution threaten Peter and everyone he loves.

Spider-Man 3 reunites the cast and filmmakers from the first two blockbuster adventures – which have grossed more than $1.6 billion worldwide.

Comments

  1. NICE!!!

Correct if I’m wrong, but didn’t they do this with the Riddick movie? Not a big deal, but I was wondering if they’d done this before.

  2. YAY!!!

  3. I give Sam Rami a lot of credit, it takes balls not to indulge the fanboys and give them a shot of Venom. Either that or he enjoys getting flamed on the message boards.

Never the less, it was a decent trailer but not quite as good as the first one’s theatrical.

  4. Am I crazy – where was Venom?

Good trailer, though I don’t know how I feel about the Sandman retcon…

  5. Who cares about retconning Sandman, that movie looks freaking awesome!!!

They need to kill off Harry, though, he has become a whiny little bitch.

  6. I agree. The theatrical trailer excited me more than this one.

I just hope that they don’t mix to many plot lines like in X3

  7. Spiderman 3 looks awesome, great cast selection, and i think it has potential to be the best yet.

  8. I’m guardedly hopeful. I’ve Been Burned to many times to get too excited about any movies based on previews (X3 being the last culprit.

  9. Yeah, because the last two sucked. C’mon. Both movies delivered, and entire crew is back on and off screen. Learn to have a little faith and not be so pessimistic.

  10. Forget about Venom, I wanted more shots of Bryce Dallas Howard as Gwen Stacy, the poster that’s out is hot.

  11. And Sam Raimi is no Brett Ratner.

  12. I re-watched Spider-Man 2 recently and I loved how he payed homage to his horror roots with the whole doc ock surgery scene… I especially loved his sloppy zooms and the gruesome sounds of the buzzsaw 🙂

  13. Yeah, because the last two sucked. C’mon. Both movies delivered, and entire crew is back on and off screen.

I really didn’t like the first one all that much. Thought the dialogue was terrible and the story didn’t thrill me that much. I loved the second one, though. I think that the success of the first one allowed Sam Raimi to really cut lose with the second and it was a much better movie.

  14. I’m not a fan of the Sandman changes. Mainly on a “what are the odds he’d be powered too” basis. It just seems too coincidental.

Having said that I’ll be there day one, fanboy hat on. Raimi fanboy that is.

  15. Looks great. No shots of Venom, or Mysterio though. Man I hope Mysteio has a big role, can’t get enough of that Bruce Campbell.

  16. That’s a lot of plot for one movie.

  17. that was awesome. I didn’t realize that thomas hayden church was playing sandman

  18. That’s a lot of plot for one movie.
Yes it is. With any luck it will be 5 or 6 hours long

  19. That’s a lot of plot for one movie.

I agree. A little part of me is afraid of it turning out like X3 where they just tried too much and failed miserably at all of it.

But, most of me thinks it’s ok. As you also said, Sam Rami is no Brett Ratner. I don’t really think we’ll need to worry.

It looks to me like whoever tells Peter that Sandman was really the one who killed Ben is just lying to get him to go to Spiderman and get him to capture Marko.

As for the retcon issue, none of the characters have been 100% true to the comic, but they’ve definitely been very true to the core ideals.

    I know I’m excited.

  20. As for the retcon issue, none of the characters have been 100% true to the comic, but they’ve definitely been very true to the core ideals.

What I meant by retcon was the whole “The Sandman really killed Uncle Ben” thing. I meant retconning the movie storyline, not from the movie-to-the-comic translation.

But you’re right, that’s probably just a ruse.

  21. What I meant by retcon was the whole “The Sandman really killed Uncle Ben” thing. I meant retconning the movie storyline, not from the movie-to-the-comic translation.

But you’re right, that’s probably just a ruse.

You’re right. I think it will turn out that Sandman only ate some Uncle Ben’s

  22. You’ve hit the nail on the head with the “core details” comment: it always seemed to me that the first two films were very true to the spirit of the source material, while the letter of the source material was in some different alphabet entirely. As a spider-fan from way back, I kept watching 1 and 2 and going, “Oh, that’s not it at all!” and then really digging them both anyway.

As for the plot-heaviness, I thought 2 seemed pretty plot-heavy on paper, too. But that all worked out. Unless Raimi’s suffered some kind of brain injury in the last couple of years, my hopes are high.

  23. My only concern is the Gwen Stacy relationship. I am worried it won’t have the same effect on movie-Peter as it has comics-Peter. However, I do have faith in Raimi’s abilities. I am most looking forward to Harry-Goblin. Not in a throw down hero/villain fight. I want to watch Harry pick up his father’s legacy and Peter agonize over fighting his friend.

  24. I’m thinking Venom won’t appear till the end. Because there is so much story to tell. And it seems (Because I really don’t know of course) that the film is more about Peter getting the black suit and dealing with that. And I’m thinking Eddie Brock is more of a prominet then Venom. I wouldn’t be surprise if what they showed at Comic Con (Venom running stright and taking over the screen in black) is the only thing we see of Venom, then credits. Because for the exception of Ultimate Spider-man, every other version of Venom appeard at the end of an arc or story line (616 Universe, and Animated). So it wouldn’t surprise me if the movie goes the same route and Venom is a big cliff hanger like element to come see 4. (Granted we don’t know about a 4 yet, but Raimi said he’d come back as did McGuire if the story was good)

  25. I had heard that Mysterio isn’t really a villian, but a character in a Spider-Man movie that they are filming in Spider-Man 3… this true?

  26. oh and did you guys see the little clip of Peter and Mary Jane making out in a giant spider web? I thought that was kinda dumb.

  27. This will probably get pulled soon enough, but here’s the SDCC trailer which is about 10x more exciting than they one they released, even if most of the effects are unfinished or have animatics in their place.

    Plus – VENOM!

  28. Oooh, Venom!

I prefer the previous trailer though, too much Tobey McGuire being whiny in this trailer. Good find Conor.

  29. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A5l9fEBs4m8
A no bull shit trailer with Venom in it, possibly leaked, not compleatly finishied CGI with some shots, but go now before it’s taken down!!!

  30. Ah crap, missed the earlyer post from Conor, my bad.

  31. It’s all moot now – it has been pulled.

  32. I watched SM 2 again last night and had forgotten about the Alex Ross paintings in the opening credits. I wonder if Ross has any involvement in the third one considering his comments about the film in Wizard…

    SPIDER-MAN 2

I was upset last year when everybody kept saying Spider-Man 2 was the best comic book movie of all time. Because I kept thinking, Oh guys, you dont realize how dumb this movie is. Youre not going to be able to say that in five years. This is a really dumb script. The things these people are saying to each other are dumb. You need some perspective.

  33. It’s like he’s echoing my thoughts on SPIDER-MAN.
