After releasing the first Countdown teaser image to much fanfare, DC is at it again.
Here’s the second teaser (by Ethan Van Sciver), and it’s decidedly more evil.
If you read the above linked interview with Dan DiDio you’ll see that every little detail in the first teaser had meaning, from the placement of the characters to their body language and their proximity to each other.
Let the speculation and analysis of the second teaser begin!

and the DC logo looks like it was edited in with MS Paint.
I just noticed that(the logo thing) I wonder if that’s a clue about Mary taking over the DCU.

Actually, according to wikipedia, it is Peter who is holding the knife in The Last Supper and in the DC image it is J’onn who is the one holding the knife. What that means I haven’t a clue.

Peter is the one that denied he knew Jesus on three different occassions. I don’t have any idea why I contributed this, but somewhere my Sunday School teacher is smiling. The teaser is crazy. I mean, the Penguin is in the pic. AWESOME!
I Love the image but again it doesnt really make much sense so a few months of waiting and we’ll may understand it.
ok, so 12 heroes, 12 villains. Of course 3 or possibly 4 of the villains seem like they shouldn’t be here. I’ll really be pissed if they make J’onn an out-and-out villain. I get that he’s pisse off and alienated, so to speak, but…

Well, MM has gone a bit rogue lately, after some disturbing developments and things he’s found out. I can’t see him as a truly bad guy, but he’s on the villains’ poster, so…
I think making J’onn evil in a similar vein as Tony Stark over at Marvel might be interesting choice since DC really has nothing to do with him right now.
… similar to Tony Stark in the sense that he has his own POV and agenda that may not sync up with the other heroes? Or in the sense that he’s become a power-mad megalomaniac bent on bending all he can see or suss to his iron will?
Similar in that he was once a significant hero and now he’s evil.

Yes, that’s the Superman that’s around now. Good ol’ Mullet Superman – sooo glad to see him again. I imagine that has something to do with the Multiverse. Or maybe that’s Conner Kent from the future or back from the dead.

Man, I know Mary Marvel’s arc in Countdown is heading is meandering in that direction, but seeing her in the poster makes me feel really uncomfortable but the idea of an evil Mary Marvel.
Wow for some reason I almost cried when I saw the Black Racer’s skies. That’s a freaking’ weird emotional reaction to that. I guess I’m really attached to the Fourth World.
My favorite part is The Trickster’s pose (while holding Pied Piper’s flute or whatever).

Interesting, how Martian Manhunter shows up in this picture of the villains. Does this mean he’ll betray Batman and The Outsiders (of which he’ll be a part of)?

Nobody is impressed at the way the joker and catwoman are represented in this picture? Im going to speculate on this… but something tells me that Joker has a special thing for Catwoman’s doughter.. and if thats so… things are going to get very nasty in the whole Batman/Catwoman/Joker relationship.

Well, there’s what looks like the Crime Bible on the ground there by Luthor’s right leg, and the Big Three cape/cowl/sword bit on the bottom-right reminds me of the cover to 52 Week One. And to a lesser extent, Week Seventeen. ^_^
