Light Week? Try Superman/Batman #85, Alpha Flight #1, and Godzilla: Gangsters & Goliath’s #1

Reboot your pull list!

Josh says try:

Superman/Batman #85

by Joshua Hale Fialkov, Adriana Melo, and JP Mayer

I admit a bit of a bias here, what with Fialkov doing some posts for iFanboy, and him generally having a bitchin' first name. But besides all that, he's one heck of a writer, and this title is a great one for a small taste of what works when creative people get to run free with Superman and Batman. I'll tell you that cover alone has me intrigued. A mouth-stuffed corpse is always a good start to a story.

Ron says try:

Alpha Flight #1

by Fred Van Lente, Greg Pak, & Dale Eaglesham

Everyone's favorite super team from up north is back! Eschewing continuity and previous (forgettable) stories, Fred Van Lente and Greg Pak have teamed up with superstar artist Dale Eaglesham to bring back the original Alpha Flight team, for a new adventure set in the newly fascist country of Canada.  Long time Marvel fans, this is one not to be missed as Guardian, Sasquatch and the rest of the Great White North heroes return to glory!

Conor Paul says try:

Godzilla: Gangsters & Goliaths #1 (of 5)
by John Layman, Alberto Poticelli, Geof Darrow

First off–not that I've ever thought about it, but–I never thought I'd see the day Geof Darrow would draw my boy Anguirus grappling with Godzilla on Monster Island. Swarmed by pterosaurs. With pirates and smugglers wading through their footfalls. Man, I wish I had editorial control over the Best of the Week in Covers feature so I could….OH WAIT! Anyways, this one isn't just for kaiju fanatics. It's written by Chew's John Layman with art by Alberto Ponticelli of Unknown Soldier and the forthcoming Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE! I'll be honest in that the main series really didn't do it for me. But this? This has all the makings of a perfect monster jam.

Comments

  1. You’ve convinced me to pick up Superman/Batman.

  2. @josh  y’know what, sold on that Batman/Superman

  3. The inks and colors on that Supes/Bat cover are pretty fantastic.  Really nice use of shadows.

  4. Superman/Batman has been consistently fun for a while…sad to be seeing it going. =(

  5. I am very excited for Godzilla: Gangsters & Goliaths.  I think that the main series will read better once it’s collected than it does in single issues.  I did love the introduction of Battra’s own Village of the Damned style Shobijin in the main series, though.

  6. I would also say pick up:

Captain America Corps. For the sole reason of USAgent and also Roger Stern is writing it.

  7. Geoff Darrow’s work always makes me think about Seth Fisher..
