Skullkickers #6

By Brian Clevinger, Ray Fawkes, Chris Sims, Adam Warren, Chamba, Scott Hepburn, Joe Vriens, Jim Zubkavich, Chris Stevens, Edwin Huang, Saejin Oh

Some great names on this special anthology issue of the rollicking adventure fantasy. Atomic Robo's Brian Clevinger? Empowered's Adam Warren? Jamming on some sword and sorcery? Sounds like fun to me. Reminds me of those old Tales from Jabba's Palace or Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina paperbacks. I lost half a day this past weekend to Puzzle Quest on the Mac, so I'm already in the mood for ogre bashing, goblin stomping entertainment. These "tavern tales" serve as an interlude from the main story, likely offering a wider perspective on the Skullkickers world and its as yet unnamed protagonists. A no brainer for existing fans and level one berserkers alike.

Who is Jake Ellis? #2

By Nathan Edmondson & Tonci Zonic

The surprise hit of 2011 so far from Image Comics is Who is Jake Ellis?.  The first issue (which you should also go track down immediately) was hands down one of the best reads of the year for me, and I've been anxiously awaiting the second issue of this espionage/thriller-esque mini-series with a little bit of the Bourne style of stories thrown in for good measure.  Zonic's art work has been solid, balancing the dark moods and settings, along with keeping the intrigue at a high level.  Don't miss out on this book!

X-Men: First Class, Vol. 1

By Jeff Parker, Roger Cruz, Paul Smith & Kevin Nowlan

In late 2008, I called X-Men: First Class "the best X-Men book being published." Two and a half years later I still haven't read a better X-Men series. Marvel is putting out a new printing of the first trade this week and now's your chance to see what you missed. Like Thunderbolts? Like Hulk? Then you don't want to miss Jeff Parker's take on the original X-Men team.
