Rocketeer Adventures, Vol. 1

By Mike Allred, John Arcudi, Kurt Busiek, John Cassady, Darwyn Cooke, Lowell Francis, Dave Gibbons, Joe R. Lansdale, Joe Pruett, Jonathan Ross, Ryan Sook, Mark Waid, Tommy Lee Edwards, Gene Ha, Scott Hampton, Tony Harris, Michael Kaluta, Brendan McCarthy, Ryan Sook, Bruce Timm and Chris Weston

This might be the single greatest collection of talent in one volume we’ve seen in the modern age of comics. Every issue was brimming with excellence. I don’t care if you like The Rocketeer or even know who it is, these comics were as good as anything we saw this year, and each and every world class creator brought their entire bag of tricks to the party, determined not to be shown up. The result was an explosion of tiny masterpieces. Get this.

Journey Into Mystery #632

By Kieron Gillen & Mitch Breitweiser

You heard Kieron Gillen and I talk about Journey Into Mystery #632 on this week’s edition of Don’t Miss but here I am again suggesting you pick this up. It’s a great single issue, a good jumping on point and a holiday issue to boot. It doesn’t get much better than a good holiday issue. Plus, Volstagg in a Santa suit!

The Ray #1

By Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti, Jamal Igle, & Rich Perrotta

DC Comics certainly isn’t being shy about putting out new mini-series. This would be the third in just a few months, but I’m okay with it because the first two have been extremely enjoyable and judging by the pedigree of the talent on The Ray, we’re in for a treat.

Comments

  1. As light as my pulls are this week, I can’t say “No” in good conscience to either The Ray or Journey Into Mystery. Plus, I’m pretty sure I owe Kieron Gillen money.

    • Also thanks for the recommendation on The Rocketeer back when it was in single issues. For anyone who hasn’t read it, MAN, are you in for a treat!

  2. I’ve got all those Rocketeer single issues, and I’m still thinking about grabbing the trade. Get that book.

  3. I don’t see how that Rocketeer series isn’t going to win my “Series of Year” award. My three favorites were that, Red Skull, and Ruse, so this was a great year for mini-series starting with “R.” Given the talent on board, maybe The Ray will keep that going.

  4. Alright you got me im going to try the new Jim since its a christmas story one and done and after all the praise its recieved how can i say no on a light week like mine. Although i will say that the new arc following this doesnt sound to intresting from what i heard from the Dont miss podcast but we will see

  5. alright, you all have sold me on Rocketeer. I’ll see if I can pick it up tomorrow

  6. Anyone know if they’ll be releasing that Rocketeer work as a soft trade?
