iFanboy at WonderCon 2010 – Parties, Panels, and More!

Comic book convention season is rolling on, and iFanboy will be there to cover the second big convention of 2010. We're headed to WonderCon in San Francisco, CA from April 2-4!

This year promises to be memorable. We'll be hunting down interviews and having fun all weekend, so you can look for a video show before too long. If you're at the show, please do not hesitate to say hi to us!

But if you don't run into us on the floor, we expect to see as much of the iFanbase as possible at any or all of the following events, that you will not want to miss:

On Friday April 2 at 8:00pm, it's the return of the Tiki Tour! Co-hosted by Isotope the Comic Book Lounge and iFanboy, it's an alcohol-fueled crawl through as many of San Francisco's numerous Tiki Bars as our livers will allow. You might recall that in years past the Tiki Tour has featured special guests like Adam Beechen and Darick Robertson, well this year's Tiki Tour special guest is Dave Johnson! And there's a pirate theme! Aaar! All the action kicks off at the Bamboo Hut at 8:00pm and it ends when you drop. If you're going to be at WonderCon and want to catch up with The Tiki Tour (or if you won't be at WonderCon and just want to follow the drunken action) you can follow the Tiki Tour on Twitter @TikiTour. The Tiki Tour is for folks 21 and over.

Tiki Tour 2010 with Dave Johnson

On Saturday April 3 we've got two panels for you:

12:30-1:30 Comics Podcasting – Celebrating 5 years of podcasting about the comics industry, join the voices behind the iFanboy series of podcasts, Ron Richards and Conor Kilpatrick, along David Brothers and Esther Inglis-Arkell from the Fourcast! from 4thLetter, plus some possible very special guests as they discuss the ins and outs of podcasting about comics, what's changed over the past 5 years, and what the future holds. You won't want to miss this frank discussion, which is sure to be filled with often embarrassing stories of comics creators, conventions, and other comics related amusements. Room 220

6:00-7:00 Comics Journalism – Join David Brothers (4thletter!), Kate Dacey (manga critic), Graeme McMillan (io9), JK Parkin (Robot 6), and Ron Richards (iFanboy), for a roundtable discussion of comics journalism from all angles. What should publishers and readers expect out of the varied and often fluctuating landscape of comics criticism online? Is comics print journalism dead? What makes a writer worth reading? Expect answers to these questions and more as the panelists, each practicing a different discipline of comics journalism, talks about the what's, why's, and how's of writing about comics online. Room 232/234

The fun doesn't stop! On Saturday April 3 at 7:00pm, iFanboy and Isotope the Comic Book Lounge are co-sponsoring a party in celebration of Jonah Hex! The books kicks ass, there's a movie coming out, and special guests of honor Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Conner, and Darwyn Cooke will be on hand to celebrate! Come to Isotope, meet some folks, have a drink, and hang out (if you're over 21).

Isotope Jonah Hex Party

It will be a weekend jam-packed with fun and more comics and creators than you can handle. We hope to see you there, and if we can't, we'll bring you back something good to see!

If you haven't before, check out iFanboy's 2007 coverage of WonderCon, featuring such gems as Conor being able to feel his socks, and drunken Civil War rants:

Then check out iFanboy's 2008 coverage of WonderCon, in which Conor goes missing and Josh nearly dies:

And don't forget about iFanboy's 2009 coverage of WonderCon which featured interviews with the cast of Watchmen:

Hopefully we'll see you there this year!

Comments

  1. Hell Yeah

  2. sweeeet, see you guys there!  losing sleep already with the excitement of wonderon. 8 more days!

  3. Helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111

  4. Oooh! Don’t think I’ve seen that first WonderCon vid. This is just like discovering a lost back issue. Can’t wait for the new one either, guys!

  5. I LOVE the invite to the Hex party. Was that an actual bottle, or just a photoshopped thing?

  6. I love it when comics invades my city!  I hope to make it to the Tiki Crawl!

  7. What is Isatopes policy on fake ids?

  8. @gabe The party is 21 and over unfortunately, IDs will be checked at the door and if the doorman is who I think it is, the policy on Fake IDs isn’t one you want to tempt

  9. @Dan unknown as to if the Hex bottle is real or photoshopped – you’ll have to ask Mr. Darwyn Cooke who designed it!

  10. Dammit on the fake IDs. Oh well, I’ll at least make the podcast panel.

  11. I need to start training my liver for the Tiki Tour now. I knew it was on when @tikitour started following me again on twitter. Also: How do you train a liver?

  12. I probably won’t make it to the Tiki Tour this time around, my liver as been acting up lately. But most likely will attend the Hex party and definitely will be at the panels heckling Ron to no end.

  13. Looking forward to seeing everyone. Although, looking at these plans, I’m starting to think that my plan of staying at my parents house across the bay to save money won’t work out too well, given these awesome after-hours events. Sigh… so… book a room…?

  14. its good to see that the tiki tour is happening this year…it was previously announced that it wasnt going too…good job guys…see you next year.

  15. I take it that Josh will once again be left home alone with the baby and an entire website to manage. Tsk, tsk.

  16. Blast if only I was 21+ oh well I’ll see you guys at the panels

  17. So jealous of you for going to WonderCon where my favorite writer will be on 3 panels!  I’ve never seen Judd Winick at SDCC or ECCC.

  18. Damn you west coast!!!! (shakes fist) Can’t go it’s too far away.  I heard that Wizard World Con is coming to Cincinnati. If that is the case I’ll be there.

    @Dan & @Ron: Someone photoshopped a Woodford Reserve bottle.

  19. @haupt – by living in a dry climate at a higher elevation. 😉

Can’t wait to see everyone at the convention!

  20. I am There! 378 miles ain’t gonna keep me away.

  21. I’m from Philly, but oddly enough I will be on vacation in San Fran during this maybe I will meet up!

  22. Wish I could make the Isotope party but living in the East Bay I’m hampered by the lack of late-night public transportation (stupid BART…) and it’s not really worth the drive and parking angst if I can’t drink! Too bad going out for a night in the city is such an ordeal for us East Bay dwellers.

  23. Very cool bottle design, wish I could make the trip!

  24. I live 4 blocks away.  I’ll be there for every hour of this!

  25. This time next week I will be drunkenly stumbling home after having an awesome time at the Isotope Comic Book Lounge with all my awesome Isotope buddies.

It will also mark one year since I joined this site after the iFanboys helped make last year’s WonderCon an unforgettable experience.

@Paradiddle: I live in Berkeley and will be taking BART home from the party myself. It is kind of an ordeal and you do have to leave a little earlier than I would like but it is totally worth it for an Isotope party, especially if you’ve never been to one before.

  26. I think Tom Katers should go in Josh’s place. I’m going Friday and Saturday, which us a first for me. Sounds like fun.

  27. =/ Sakuracon is only dayz away and I’m still recovering from ECCC. I might end up like josh up there come this weekend.

  28. @kenkneisel – looking forward to hanging out at the party man.

To everyone, Ken is an awesome guy with some amazing stories! He also let me know about Isotope on this site.

  29. going on saturday. where will go guys be in the morning on sat.

  30. @tidd42: At the con… somewhere.

  31. @AmirCat: Thanks, man! I’m definitely looking forward to hanging out at the party too! 🙂

  32. Marvel has an app for downloading comics on the iPad! It’s awesome.

  33. lol we’ve all had our fair share of civil war rants.

  34. I’m pscyched for this weekend! I plan on attending both Tiki Bar Tour and the Party at Isotope!

  35. In the Hotel room in SF and just waiting for it to be tomorrow already for the TIKI TOUR!
