Heroes – S02E04 – The Kindness of Strangers

Tonight’s episode: “The Kindness of Strangers”!

I completely forgot that this season of Heroes isn’t going to feature one long story arc, but rather a few of them, a la the last season of Veronica Mars. Equipped with that knowledge I can now say — “Let’s hurry it up, already, people.”

It appears from the trailer (and isn’t that a dangerous statement to make) that the Heroes are finally going to get together. Right now everyone seems somewhat aimless and off in their own storyline so it’s hard to get caught up in the danger when you don’t know who it effects. I think that the nest part of this season so far has been the Watchmen-like murder plot against the old guard and that hasn’t been touched on enough.

I kind of hope that Clair turns evil, just because it would be an interesting plot twist. Maybe Floppy Hair can brainwash her or something. I just want to see someone from last season turn to the dark side.

I am also greatly intrigued by the unknown villain that’s worse than Sylar that the little girl has visions of. That has enormous potential.

Comments

  1. The fact that they continually show Kensei’s symbol over and over (Little girls drawings from her dreams, on the pictures of those to be murdered, on Peter’s necklace, etc.)makes me wonder if either he or Hiro will become the boogyman that the little girl speaks of. Since Kensei can’t die (like Claire)it is possible that he uses Hiro to travel through time. That thing I like about this show is it lets me think of possibilities that are usually as interesting as the show.

P.S. I agree that if Hiro has perfected his powers, he should go back and save Google the Waitress…. I miss Charlie and they haven’t introduced another cute redhead yet.

  2. Shadow King much?

I really want to know more about the old order, like their powers and what they did. Plus the whole “company” thing makes me wonder.

My guess is Hiro does SOMETHING to Kensei that drives him over the edge, maybe he takes the swordsmith’s daughter from him?

As for Hiro going back, I don’t think he can change the past. I think he can only change the future. Which I know starts to fall apart if you think of various versions of Hiro running around, but it seems like the past is linear and the future is potential.

  3. So wait, there isn’t going to be ONE unifying story, but MULTIPLE overall stories? Or like, this season will consist of stories that are resolved within 6 episodes or something? I’m confused >:0

  4. I read somwhere that there will be two story arcs this season, the first dealing with the “first” generation or heroes, kind of a sins of the father theme. I’m not sure what the other one is.

  5. You guys might have to hold down the fort, I might be coming into this one late.

  6. oh boy mere moments away

  7. Does HRG work anymore? I miss him at the paper factor.

  8. I hate Clair’s douchy boy

  9. Who says two men can’t raise a super powered child?

  10. He works at a print shop. Like a kinkos.

  11. …Geez I keep expecting Suresh to kiss Parkman.

  12. Anyone else think Nathans two kids might be like half super powered kids.

  13. bringing in the cute kids usually is reserved for later seasons, but you never know.

  14. That was a cool beard

  15. “The fact that they continually show Kensei’s symbol over and over (Little girls drawings from her dreams, on the pictures of those to be murdered, on Peter’s necklace, etc.)makes me wonder if either he or Hiro will become the boogyman that the little girl speaks of. I’m thinking more lives through the past to the present.

  16. Wow, Micah’s cousin is even more annoying than he is.

    That’s some truly skillful writing.

  17. Floppy hair should never be himself, ever!

  18. “That was my dad”

She sure came out with this

  19. Peter and Natthans father is the bogey man?

  20. “Peter and Natthans father is the bogey man?”

    I thought he was dead.

  21. Thats the twist.

  22. This Mexican story is getting better. I like where it’s going.

  23. Sylar’s plot is like a Metroid game, sh.. erm, he gets his powers taken at the beginning of the gam… erm, season and spends the remainder trying to get them back.

    Sylar?… or Samus?

  24. I think Claire other power is the inability to tell a convincing lie.

  25. HRG is my new favorite character

  26. epog, you’re right. Who goes to the “Library” to “study” and doesn’t bring a book bag?

  27. Woha! Now things are starting to fall together. Team ups and histories. The only thing I want is for Parkmen, who was there when Nathan came to take Peter to the sky, say something about that night.

  28. I miss Hiro.

  29. yup, the baby thing was big

  30. ok, Micah’s cousin can replicate skills, like Taskmaster

  31. So Parkman’s dad is the Nightmare Man.

  32. I like this. I’m glad it’s picking up and hitting something big before every commercial.

  33. “We’ve been drving around with killers,” ha ha. If he only knew.

  34. wonder twins powers activate

“We’ve been drving around with killers,” ha ha. If he only knew.

Beat me to the punch… Was gonna say I was surprised Sylar didn’t kill him, til I saw the end b4 commercial.

    And where’s Hiro?

  36. La Cucaracha!

  37. Sylar is up to his old tricks again.

  38. oh, he killed someone, biiig suprise

  39. Hiro is probably still getting kicked around in the past and Peter is probably getting drunk in Ireland.

ok, Micah’s cousin can replicate skills, like Taskmaster

I probably missed it…Where’d you get that?

  41. I did not see the roach. Good catch.

  42. Interesting catch on the cockroach.

  43. He’s all better! HRG can just say he’s going to the library.

  44. she sees the tomato cutting on TV then does it, then she stares at the tv watching the wrestling like she was soaking it in

  45. told ya 🙂

  46. good ending!!!

  47. “we never go out anymore Mohinder”
“Matt, you’re just being a selfish prick, I need space!”

  48. Kristen Bell!! She’s super hot!

  49. This is the best episode of the new season. For the first time I can’t wait until next week. Plus Kristen Bell!

  50. Thanks Six Gun. Now I know!

  51. thanks, I try 😉

  52. each episode is getting better and better. this was the most interesting one so far.

not enough hot blondes on this show, they need a new one next week? yeesh.

  53. Thanks Six Gun. Now I know!

“And knowing is half the battle!”

  54. each episode is getting better and better. this was the most interesting one so far.

not enough hot blondes on this show, they need a new one next week? yeesh.

You can never have enough hot blondes.

  55. Great episode. Easily the best of the season. Some reasons for that:

    – No stupid Peter and the Fake Irishmen storyline.
    – Micah’s cousin (the girl, not the male cousin who is more annoying than Micah) is actually interesting and she has a cool ability.
    – Uhura
    – I like that Nathan has something to do besides worrying about getting elected. Adrian Pasdar was criminally underused last season.
    – Sylar and The Wonder Twins is getting good. Sylar inspires real fear because he’s pretty much capable of anything at anytime.
    – I don’t know why but The Nightmare Man makes me uneasy.

I would, at some point, like HRG to punch Floppy Hair – hard and in the face.

I’m not ashamed to admit this but when Kristen Bell came on in the trailer for next week I – all alone in the apartment – started applauding.

Thanks Six Gun. Now I know!

“And knowing is half the battle!”

Ah…I knew someone would fall into temptation and complete it 🙂

  57. Definetly one of the better episodes this season. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I can’t stand West, and I hope Sylar kills him, preferably right in front of Claire, cause she can’t be happy for more than 5 minutes. Also, thank god Rey Mysterio is somehow involved in Heroes, couldn’t they have picked someone better. It would have been funny to see her give the guy a stunner, or Hogan leg drop.

  58. Okay, Conor, you gotta admit that was a pretty cool cliffhanger. “Matt, help me!” That makes you wanna watch. And that was BEFORE Kristen Bell. So are we to assume that Sylar walked out of the tropical jungle as opposed to using flight or teleportation or anything else? Good episode, although the Mexican story still isn’t connecting for me. It’s automatically better because Sylar is in it but still feels unconnected. Can’t wait for them to get to New York and hook up with Bob. Like the new character although the burglary was predictable as soon as we saw her absorbing wrestling (seriously I said it out loud). Liking it lots and Chuck is still a fun diversion.

  59. I agree – it was a kick ass episode up and down.

  60. The first time this season I think, “eh, it’s been so slow this year; I’ll catch it on Tivo” and it’s a blockbuster. This is going to make me superstitious, like that baseball fan whose team always loses when he doesn’t watch. “I have to Tivo it, or it won’t be good!”

  61. Did anybody else pick-up the gnar-gnar foreshadowing when Claire’s homeboy was dropping her off, begging for more kissies she says, “You’re killing me…”
I haven’t trusted this mahoner since day one. Nuh-uh…

On a related note: I heard the guy who played Claire’s other guy-pal was written to be gay on the show. He was auditioning for a part in Terminator 4 and his agent didn’t think it would look good so they had him dropped from the show or something… lame.

Other than that, I totally agree, this has been the best episode this season.

Nathan’s bears is off the chain!!!!!!!!

  62. Stone the crows! A flat-out good episode. Wasn’t expecting that! Not great, but good… maybe solid’s a better word.

I disagree with you though, Conor, on some points as to why it was good:

Micah’s cousin, Monica, is a far from interesting character and got acted off the screen by an 11-year old. He ability (copying things off the telly) is frankly stupid. I laughed in disbelief at that wrestling move.

Uhura as a character, and Nichelle Nichols as an actress, are cool. Her being in this is pointless, apart from being able to say Uhura’s in Heroes. Unless they pull something out of the bag for her in this show, it’s useless stunt casting.

Sylar isn’t really capable of “anything at anytime” is he? He’s lost all his powers. Sure, he can brick you in the head when no one else is around and there’s no chance of Police being nearby… but that’s not really anything at anytime, it’s more sneaky and lucky isn’t it?

But the twins are GREAT, easily the best thing about this season. Dania continues to amaze.

I loved every scene with Nathan, his stuff was a true callback to the gravitas of last season.

I THANKED GOD Peter’s story had no place in this episode. Not because I hate Peter, it just seemed to work better (although I wonder if the Oirish have found their OiPods yet?).

The flying effects with Clare and that guy from Fall Out Boy were damn impressive, and it’s kinda cool how both Clare and HRG are getting back to keeping secrets from each other… but PLEASE kill that flying teenage wanker!

I’ll say it again: Nikki – what’s the point, really?

Overall, a good solid ep, seems to hopefully be getting back on track.

Ps: Theo, you’re basically right, I never knew that kid from season 1 was written to be gay, but he left because he got cast as John Connor in The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Whether he’d have turned out to be gay, I dunno, maybe they say in a commentary? Anyone know? Either way, now he gets to spend his working days with Lena Headey from 300…bastard!

  63. I think we’ve got a new website grump.

  64. The twins are great? Really? They haven’t done anything except fret. Well, and kill a bunch of people.

  65. Ha, fair point, Conor, lol!

I thought I was pretty positive about this ep, genuinely enjoyed it. Had a few gripes, etc…

Don’t wanna bring people down who are really enjoying it though, that’s not what this place is about, so I’ll hold back on the negativity.

  66. Echo the Burger King Taskmaster has won my heart in record time.

In contrast, the Blunder Twins have one more episode to just f***ing say what their problem is before I start fast forwarding through that storyline. “We need to cross the border to talk to Doctor Suresh right away, because in Mexico we don’t have e-mail. What is our horrible secret? Isn’t it just killing you? Hello? Anyone?”

I have come to accept that Hiro is going to just dick around in feudal Japan for the rest of the season. We’ll always have last season, Hiro!

The Ten Little Indians murder plot has my full attention. Parkman’s dad looks so harmless! I wonder: will there be flashbacks to the previous generation when they were younger?

I need to rewatch the end of last season. When Parkman and Nathan were talking, I kept going, “Wait, don’t they know about each other already? Weren’t they at the Kirby Plaza thing together? Did I dream that?”

  67. I’m quite certain that Parkman was lying on the ground, unconcious after receiving 4 bullets to the chest from Sylar, when Nathan swooped in to fly Peter off into the nights sky.

  68. This from a NEWSARAMA interview with Tim Kring and Kristen Bell:

Kring also offered a further view, stating,

  69. “Cliffhangs”?? Ugh, what is happening to this language? And this from a writer. Granted, a writer whose characters say, “You can cheerlead.”

I bet he says “fundraise,” too.

Nah, no need to hold back. This is the place to let it all hang out.

  71. Cheers DocDoom, but I’ve already been christened the “website grump”, lol!

  72. Feel free to be as grumpy as you like.

Just be okay with being called on it. 🙂

  73. Yay, I can take a break from being the “website grump”. I have been on holiday anyway. 😛

  74. Haha.. If he gets to be the site’s Grumpy, can I be the Sleepy? Or Happy? …or Doc? …Bashful? Maybe I should earn it. Well… I guess by posting this in the first place makes me Dopey :-p

  75. so….how come no-one missed Sylar’s body being missing?

  76. Apparently I’m the only one here who is extremely annoyed by the twins? If I see the whole “oh, no, my eyes are turning black, hold my hands… there, now your eyes are turning black… now they’re back to normal… whew, that was rough” thing ONE more time….

Last season Nikki was the annoying character to me, this years it’s these guys.

Although, I’m also tempted to start fast-forwarding the tivo through the parts with the little girl and “her two dads.”

To be honest, I guess, the only characters I give two sh*ts about this season are Clair and her dad, and Peter.

  77. I think the twins have a lot of potential and have already shown some interesting twists.

The fact that they he cancels the power and she can’t control it with out him makes me interested.

Gotta admit, there are a lot of characters. Plenty for everyone to hate and love.

I heard they are going to run a mini series in the middle of the season and let us vote on who we want to be on the show.

    Too many stories and characters.
