Havok, Polaris and Marvel Girl Returning in X-Men Legacy #250

Finally! It's been nearly a year and a half since I screamed the question, "Where the hell are Havok and Polaris and Marvel Girl?" and after a year of bringing it up whenever I could when talking to random Marvel staffers, the question is finally getting answered in the pages of X-Men Legacy.  We got a tease of this in the last issue of X-Men Legacy #248 where as part of the aftermath of Age of X, we see that Marvel Girl was attempting telepathic contact with Professor X, after hearing that news Cyclops finally realized he hasn't seen or heard from his brother in ages, and he kicked off the mission to bring them back.

Written by Mike Carey, with art by Khoi Pham and Steve Kurth, X-Men Legacy #250 is and oversize issue, clocking in at 64 pages and will show us a new team lead by Rogue and Magneto, along with what looks like Professor X, Gambit, Legion and Frenzy fighting against a new villain, while Havok, Polaris and Marvel Girl make their return to the fold. How Havok and Polaris and Marvel Girl fit into this new team and the new villain is a mystery, bu personally this is vindicating for me, because when Marvel says, "because YOU Demanded it" that's actually not Marketing BS, we DID demand this and I'm glad that this plot line is finally getting wrapped up and some of my favorite X-Men are finally coming back.

Marvel sent us a preview of X-Men Legacy #250 so we can get a taste of what's to come.  You can check it out below and take particular note of the last page in the preview…

X-Men Legacy #250 is in stores on June 8, 2011 and will sell for $4.99 for 64 pages.

  1. I didn’t really understand your shock about these characters been missing. They’ve definitely not been in the spotlight lately but they were leading the Starjammers and played a pretty big part in the War of Kings crossover. I’m glad they are finally coming back now though

  2. Well they have to bring him back! X-Men First Class has Havok in it…!

  3. Cool, I didn’t know they were gone until I read Legacy last week, but I’m intrigued either way.  Havok, Polaris, Rachel are all characters I’ve encounted while reading 70s/80s back issues of X-Men.  Should be fun.

  4. If they change Havok’s ability color to red to coincide with the flick, I’ll eat my face.

  5. It’s about time they returned.

  6. This looks like fun. The x-books have been on fire lately. Count me in.

  7. Thanks to Ron who made this possible.

  8. Right on. I may even start reading X-Men again. 😛

  9. It was quite amazing how Rachel’s appearance in last week’s issue instantly brought me a sense of nostalgia. It was such a nice moment for Scott to see his “other” child after what happened with Cable.

They really did drop the ball with Scott realizing his brother had been missing for two years at last.

  10. not big on the art in that last page. polaris seems disfigured and contorted. otherwise looks great!

  11. @warmachine15  Haha, I’d like to see that.

  12. Who the hell is Frenzy?

  13. Yeah, they’ve been in space.  With the shutdown of the Marvel Cosmic comics, they haven’t had any features.

Frenzy is a pretty old character who was a fairly prominent villain in the 90’s.  She got a reinvention as the 3rd in the perpetual Scott Summers love triangle during the Age of X.

  14. YAY! I love Havok and am happy to have him back, since they just disappeared at the end of War of Kings (other than that one panel in Realm.) There was quite a bit set up about them and Rachel.

Frenzy? She’s back to being a good gal again? She’s been tosses between good and bad so many times since ’86.

  15. I was never really clear on who Marvel Girl was. Isn’t she a Jean clone or something?

  16. @Bryce31  Marvel Girl is the daughter of Jean and Scott from a future that never ended up happening. This is actually in the top five most sane origins in X-Men history.

  17. I really like Legacy and X-Factor. But I’m not a fan of most other X-teams. Abnett and Lanning on New Mutants I am picking up at least three X-books a month.

  18. I CANT WAIT!    I’m right there with you Ron. The Havok, Polaris, and Rachel story was one of my favorite stories running through the MU since Brubaker started it back in Deadly Genesis.  Forget Flashpoint and Fear Itself. THIS is my big event of 2011!!

  19. @Jimski

    Thanks for the info!

  20. They didn’t forget Korvus!

  21. If anyone besides Ron had posted this, I would’ve been heartily disappointed.

  22. I was actually kind of hoping they’d get their own series as the Starjammers

  23. Wait so Havok is in the First Class movie too?

It feels like a bunch of casting executives who never read an X-men comic in their life

looked through a character catalog and said- “umm this one- this one and…. this one”

I guess I will just have to look at this as sort of elseworld’s tale but come on-

I have a feeling it will be stylish but I think it’s going to suck storywise.

  24. @ericmci  If anything, the choice of X-Men in first class proves that Matthew Vaugh is doing the movie he wants.IF this movie was as controlled by executives as you think it was, you would have the mutants that everyone knows: Wolverine, Storm, etc. and way more high-profile actors involved in this movie.

  25. Brandino- I think that with many adaptations- it’s important to pa attention to why the original worked.

Yeah it’s cool to mix it up and create new things- but there is a reason the original worked and has worked for decades.

You start mixing and matching and you end up with some inconssitencies that hinder and fail in gross and subtle ways sometimes.

Analogy- a stock honda runs for years- boy racer starts screwing with it and you can either make it a little sportier and maybe a little faster or you can end up with a gaudy- tacky car that blows a headgasket b/c youve compromised the core engineering.

And as for Vaughn he’s a capable director- but from the interviews I have read- he’s pretty new to X-men – doesnt mean he can’t make a good movie here- but personally I would like a fan first to do an adaptation like this- to know the continuity rules first before they decide to bend or break them-  better chance of it working in my opinion.
