‘Green Lantern: The Animated Series’ – S01E05 – “Heir Apparent”

Hal is going to find love… maybe with the big guy in the orange suit? I actually like the James Kirk-esque characterization of Hal Jordan. It’s kind of awesome.

Here’s how “Heir Apparent” is described:

Hal challenges a brutal warrior alien for the hand of the planet’s princess!

I look forward to your thoughts, opinions, gripes, live-blogging, etc.

  1. Man, this series just keeps getting better and better–my only gripe is that each ep is only 20 minutes! As usual, Timm & Co.’s understanding of the characters makes even a standalone episode like this one compelling. If only Hollywood would take note!

  2. I agree Conor, I too have been loving Hal’s characterization. I’ve been really enjoying this show, and also enjoyed this episode.

  3. The animation really impressed me in this episode. If the technical learning curve is this fast, I’m anxious to see how great the last episodes of the season will look. The CGI is growing on me.

I liked the writing of this episode a lot, too. Everything from the – yes, again – Star Trek/Kirk-like feel of the plot and characterization, to the very un-Trek-like conclusion. (An empowered queen who needs no king?!)

DC is making Saturday mornings fun again 🙂

  4. Was Iolande new or does she exist in the comics because I would love to see her in the Lantern books; hell I’d love it even more if they wrote Starfire like they did her.

  5. I guess TV writers are just better than comic writers?

  6. Did anyone notice the Wilhelm Scream at about the 17:30 mark? Why do I always get so excited about that?

  7. Hopefully this means we’ll get Isamot in that thanagar episode!

  8. yo for those of you with comcast or other cable company providers – is there a reason why Green Lantern isn’t On Demand when Young Justice is?

  9. Good episode. This show really does get better every week.

Though I did have to laugh at the idea that you just… become a Green Lantern. No training. Don’t have to go to Oa. You’re just a Green Lantern.
