‘Green Lantern: The Animated Series’ – S01E21 – “Babel”

Green Lantern_The Animated Series_Babel

I should have known that we wouldn’t really lose Aya. I feel stupid for being duped. But it was a great moment!

Here’s how “Babel” is described:

Hal, Kilowog, and Razer crash land on a planet with a poisonous atmosphere.  With their power rings nearly depleted, their only hope is to seek refuge in a nearby domed city, completely overrun by thieves and hooligans.  But teamwork’s a little tougher when no one can understand anyone else!

I look forward to your thoughts, opinions, gripes, live-blogging, etc.

Comments

  1. It was unsettling when she tried to make out with Razor in the Toy Story Forgotten Toy mode.

  2. This was a great episode, I was hoping we’d finally get to see Larfleeze but I should have known from the title it would involve “miscommunication”. I loved Razor’s line:”If the worst should happen, you two are…acceptable souls to be vaporized with.”. Not that it’s really needed, but I kinda hope another character joins the team temporally until they rescue Aya, partly for diversity and partly to see some other characters (maybe Tomar-Re or Guy Gardner?). I also realized this show is not as diverse as “Young Justice”, pretty much the only female character is an android. So maybe this show was destined to have a limited run. It still sucks both have been canceled.

  3. I really liked this episode, especially for all the small humorous bis in it.

Very dramatic and compelling situations, too.

A quality show, all the way.

I can only hope that Beware The Batman can hold a candle to this series.

  4. After the last two, this episode was very much appreciated. Lots of funny bits, my favorite being Kilowog’s retort to Hal “Poo-Zer.” Also, the stars moving in the background as the three remain still in the adrift ship was a nice touch.

  5. Anyone else notice that the aliens in the dome city are the alien miners from Galaxy Quest?

  6. A bit of a let down, it being a bottle-show after so much soapy goodness… but it still had some cool beats. Razer especially got some great funny stuff. And I liked the creepiness of the Manhunter head still spewing its threat while hanging from the Rancor’s trophy belt. And in general, I love it when we remember that stuff like language translation and life support are always maintained by the GLs’ rings even when not discussed. I wonder if the rings do anything else we take for granted? I remember hearing that the rings keep their wearers’ bodies in tip-top shape without need of exercise…?

Anyway yeah, another fun episode, another week reminding me to be sad that this show will be gone soon :-/

    • @BionicDave, the rings can also provide essential nutrients, eliminate bodily waste, and can suppress the need for sleep (Guy Gardner was punished in this method in the comics. He was not allowed to eat, play games, talk, go to the bathroom, or sleep for 3 months I think while patrolling the Sci-cells on Oa). The wearer’s rings can also change/alter their uniforms, store information (ala the Book of Oa), and can of course transmit messages over long distances like radios. Thats all I can think of.

    • Thanks, Itho. So I guess a GL ring is kind of like the iPhone 9. 😉
