Full Color Commentary: Brandon Seifert on WITCH DOCTOR #1 from Kirkman’s Skybound

Let's talk about autosarcophagy.

Actually. We probably shouldn't. But that Wikipedia page may get a few dozen more hits than typical for a summer's tuesday.

Brandon Seifert is a deranged man who knows all about things like autosarcophagy and tanned demon flesh and exorcism. He's not a witch doctor or a sorcerer himself, but he writes about one named Vincent Morrow in his new limited series Witch Doctor.

Walking Dead readers may recall a recent Witch Doctor preview involving vampirism. That's issue #0.

The solicit describes Witch Doctor as a combo of House and Fringe, which is a fairly apt diagnosis. This is occult detection with a forensic twist, and that means hypodermic needle fingers and hellspawn larvae bulging from whence hellspawn larvae ought not bulge. But are you gonna tell it that? You know what they say. When hellspawn larvae bulges from your thoracic cavity, it's time to get a new fence,

We talked to writer Brandon Seifert about the genesis of Vincent Morror and his reluctant assistants, as well as the path he and artist Lucas Ketner took from self-publishing to Image comics. This is the first series under the Skybound banner not written by Robert Kirkman himself. What's it like writing for the author the Walking Dead and Invincible? And how did all this happen in the first place?

"House M.D. meets Fringe in the first Skybound original from Robert Kirkman’s new comics imprint! Meet Vincent Morrow, a doctor looking for a vaccine… for the apocalypse! In this stand-alone first issue, a family needs Dr. Morrow’s help with their son’s illness: Demonic possession. But when Morrow attempts an experimental cure, he discovers the boy’s disease isn’t all spinning heads and pea soup — it’s like nothing you’ve seen before! Horror gets a brain transplant in Witch Doctor, the book Warren Ellis calls “Mental.”"
