There’s no two ways about it: Ryan Stegman is not only awesome but dude draws a mean Spider-Man. The webbing creating the AvX logo is an especially nice touch.

  1. Colossus grew his hair back? And punched himself in the face repeatedly to look completely deformed?

    • From what I’ve seen, Marvel allows variants to be completely unanchored in current continuity.

I believe they can be as ‘What If?’ as the artist and editor agree upon, because they are pretty far out sometimes.

  2. Glad to see such a great artist getting the chance to do more covers (for the financial benefits if nothing else).

I’ll miss him on Scarlet Spider but I thank him for getting the series up and running in style.

  3. When did Colossus get his hair back? All that work for Ron on Don’t Miss about Colossus’ hair and now he “grows” it back?

    • Same reply as above.

Variants don’t have to comply with continuity.

They can be truly variant, totally imaginary, or just completely non-referential.

    • And beyond that, this book won’t be out for another couple months. With the bi-weekly AVX shipping schedule (and the accelerated schedule for many X-books), there’s a lot of potential time for something in the books to trigger a change.

  4. Really? A daring raid on a prison to free their captured teammates? As if the similarities to Civil war aren’t glaring enough, they just come right out and give a plot point to one of the issues of Civil War. I’ve enjoyed the issues so far, but if this just turns into a retread of everything Civil War was, I may have to drop off.

    • But clearly, Ryan Stegman can draw. That cover is great and I can’t wait to see his stuff on Fantastic Four.

    • That cover only achieves “okay” status…Look at Colossus’ face. Unless something made his face into something “Joker-Like”, his face is just deformed. His eyes are at an insane angle, they are way too high, he probably shouldn’t have hair, though who knows on that one.

  5. “And in the end, it all comes down to Spider-Man!”

    Oooooooh that sounds interesting

    • Lest we forget he too has a movie coming out lol

    • That quote is like music to me.
I am ready to just skip ahead to issue 9.

Also, did anybody else see the 4 minutes from the Spider-man movie?
      Friggin awesome!

    • I wanted to but then I thought I should just go in as cold as I can. I’m beginning a media black out in relation to that movie just so I can be as spoiler free as possible. Nice to hear it’s awesome though, i can’t wait.

    • spiderman beat the xmen back in secret wars. this just gets me more up for this event and the new spidey film

    • Finally! I’m so sick of Spider-Man being a fifth wheel in all these Marvel events these last few years. He’s their best, most popular character, but he’s always on the sidelines, only there to crack a joke or two. It’s time he actually did something again.

    • Yay I’m glad to see Spider-man will play an important part in this!

  6. Indestructible mettalic flat tops are back in vogue!!
Seriously though, one hit and Petey splatters Spidey!!

  7. Stegman should be on avengers when the new writer takes over

  8. Stegman should draw all the comics

    • Excluding books like The Flash, Wonder Woman, Punisher, Thunderbolts, Saga, Uncanny X-Force, Prophet, Winter Soldier, and Near Death, then yes he should draw all of the REST of the comics.

  9. Looks like Colossus has been Sinistarized. Doesn’t the new Uncanny X-Men solicitation implies Mr. Sinister is the main villain? Will be horrible to see another mind-controlled hero fight other hero story though.

  10. • Their numbers dwindling, the anti-registration side stage a daring raid on the pro-registration sides prison to rescue their captive members—and you won’t believe where it is!

  11. I love Stegman’s art, I really do, but there is seriously something wrong with Colossus’ face in that cover.

  12. I guess I wasn’t the 1st to notice, Stegman’s art is awesome but he could’ve really done something else with Colossus’s face, that looks terrible…..the rest, cool, especially the AvsX in webbing logo.

  13. I really really really want this cover.
