Edgar Wright & Joe Cornish Deliver New ANT-MAN Script to Marvel Studios

With filming of Joss Whedon's The Avengers film underway as we speak, Marvel Studios just received what could be the next piece in the puzzle for Marvel's Movie-verse. At last weekend's KAPOW! convention in England, Joe Cornish (director of the upcoming Attack The Block) confirmed to Bleeding Cool that he and Edgar Wright turned in a new draft of  the Ant-Man screenplay last week.

This brings Marvel's plans post-The Avengers more into focus. With sequels to both Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor and Iron Man 2 already drawn up, the long-talked about Ant-Man film would be the newest leading character to add to Marvel's movie slate. Talk of an Ant-Man movie goes all the way back to 2006's San Diego Comic-Con International when Wright was first attached to the project, and the formation of a string of Marvel hits has both solidified the possibility of the film but also delayed it to fit within the company's intricate framework.

Wright was previously quoted as saying the Ant-Man movie would be an action film with some humorous moments, with plans to include both Henry Pym and Scott Lang in the role int he titular role. In February of last year, Marvel MVP and character co-creator Stan Lee had lunch with the director and Tweeted about it happily, saying "I had lunch with the cool, young director Edgar Wright and, as you'd imagine, we had fun discussing the tiny hero."

With news of a revised script for Ant-Man firmly in the hands of Marvel Studios, you could easily see the founding Avenger being inserted — even if in a cameo — to the 2012 Avengers film in the same way Nick Fury cameo'ed in Iron Man or how Hawkeye is going to appear in Thor. Back at last year's Comic-Con International in San Diego, fans were buzzing — and later deflated — when Joss Whedon joked that Nathan Fillon was set to star as Ant Man in The Avengers. Although Marvel Studios later stressed Whedon was joking, the best jokes have a little bit of truth…. and Ant-Man is little. Hmmm…

Comments

  1. Edgar Wright, Nathan Fillon and Ant Man would make for an amazing flick.

  2. As far as I’m concerned, Edgar Wright can do no wrong. I’m nmore interested in his Ant Man than I cm about any other in-the-works Marvel picture.

  3. Edgar Wright is great. I will keep my fingers crossed for a Hank Pym vs. Eric O Grady style Ant-Man showdown.

  4. Alad Tudyk would be a great Ant-Man.

  5. STEPHEN!

    …Worth a try

  7. I’ll see anything Edgar Wright directs.  I think I’m looking forward to this more than any of the other marvel movies, if it all goes down.
