Definitive Irredeemable Hardcover? What Say You!?

Do you like big oversized books with slip cases? Are you a fan of Mark Waid's Irredeemable from BOOM! Studios? Do you want to see Peter Krause's depiction of a child skeletonized by flame just a little bit bigger on heavier paper?

Good news!

The Definitive Irredeemable Hardcover Vol. 1, collecting the first 12 issues of this wonderful original superhero series can now be yours for around $75, and is available for pre-order now, and should be in your sweaty hands by June or July. If you want to make sure you get one, talk to your retailer now.

The number of available deluxe volumes like this is ticking up slowly. It started with the Absolutes and Omnibus editions. Then Image had some made up for Kirkman's big books, and now we're seeing it branch out. The stories are available for people who don't want to spend as much, but as we've seen, there are plenty who covet the big volumes.

If you want to know more about Irredeemable, let me also point you towards commentary I did about the first issue of Irredeemable with Mark Waid and Peter Krause. The commentary is yours if you purchase the first issue on Graphicly, and you can listen to it through the Air app. It's a bit of a plug, sure, but it's also a really fun conversation.

  1. Love this book. Got it signed by Mark in NYCC. Mentioned Graphicly, etc. He lit up like a  Christmas Tree.

  2. I’d love to get my hands on this, but $75 seems a bit steep for a 12 issue hardcover, even if it does have a slipcase. I think I’ll keep my eyes out for the trades.

  3. @StupendousMan  I kinda agree, especially when it’s an ongoing series that you may need to get multiple volumes of.

  4. Would love to have this. How about iFanboy give away a free copy;)

  5. Only $47 on Amazon currently.

  6. I pre-ordered a copy, it’s $41.24 at DCBS right now.

I was initially pissed when I saw this solicited because I had JUST ordered the first 3 trades from DCBS but would rather have this hardcover.  DCBS was nice enough to cancel my orderes for the trades to I could order the hardcover.

I’d love a ‘Shelf Porn To Watch Out For’ monthly article…paging Wood.

  7. slipcases are loved by all book publishers because for the extra $2-10 it costs to make, it adds $20-$30 of retail value to the book. Makes it look fancy. The real thing that makes a difference is the printing and binding. If its on a nice thick book stock, if its bound in signatures (as opposed to the inferior side sew that most all trades and HCS’s are bound with) and that sort of thing.

I’ve never gotten into this series. I’m thinking about starting on the trades.

  8. I’ve been getting the trades for both Irredeemable and Incorruptible and I’m very happy with them except for the “bonus” feature of the first few pages of Potter’s Field that seem to be the same in every book.
I don’t think I’ll be getting this hardcover, but it is nice that it is being offered.

  9. I got the first 13 issues and have been ordering trades since. I will wait till the series is over.

  10. wow that looks beautiful!

  11. looks handsome, but I’ll stick with the trades

  12. Is the title still going? I jumped off at issue 18ish but fancy getting back into it…

  13. @GloriousGodfrey  Yes it is.

  14. What number is it up to now?

  15. @GloriousGodfrey  24.

  16. Love the title but don’t want to spend the money on this product.

  17. Hellz to the yeah!  Irredeemable is my favorite book running.  I’m definitely in!

  18. I would much prefer a more affordable 12 issue paperback, personally. This does look cool for those who can afford it though.

  19. Cool they are doing this for collectors, but I just bought the whole run through comixology last week for $1/issue so I’ll skip the HC.  Really dig the series though.

  20. @Wangman and Stupendousman    Absolute All-Star Superman was $99 and was 12 issues and I think New Frontier was $75 and only 6 issues.  My point is that this is priced pretty competitively.

  21. ‘I’d love a ‘Shelf Porn To Watch Out For’ monthly article…paging Wood.’

    – strongly second this! It’s very easy to miss some of this stuff unless you know about it well in advance. Like the Rocketeer Artist’s Edition I missed out last year 🙁
