We were getting a bit concerned about Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2 since they haven’t announced any new villains in the past 24 hours. Luckily, The Hollywood Reporter has calmed our nerves with the news that Chris Cooper (The Muppets, A Time to Kill) has signed on to play Norman Osborn. He joins Jamie Foxx and Paul Giamatti, Electro and the Rhino respectively, as some of Peter Parker’s 99 problems. This also makes him the father to Dane DeHaan’s Harry Osborn. And if the previous film has anything to say about it, he’ll also be inexorably linked with Pete’s late parents, their deaths, and what Pete ate for breakfast in 1997.

This is awesome, Cooper should be great as Osborn. Really looking forward to this movie with this news and the images of the new costume.
Also, this movie has a hell of a cast now….3 Oscar winners I believe?

Ummmm WOW! Did not see that coming. Although I was kind of rooting for Massee to be Norman, Cooper should be exceptional in the role. My only concern is the balance of villains throughout the film. Will this heavily feature Rhino & Electro & Goblin comes in ASM3? Or do they somehow put them all together & accomplish the highly difficult job of making 3 villains work? From what I understand it, Gwen is mostly likely going to die in this film, so not having Gobby be the villain to her death would be borderline shameful, IMO. Aw well, lets see what happens, I am still more excited for Days Of Future Past than ASM 2 though
The way I understand it from reading at a couple of other sites (which could be completely wrong) is that Electro is the main villain in this movie, Giamatti as Rhino is set up in this movie and he will serve as the main villain in ASM3, and that Osborn will not be the Goblin yet and will kind of be the behind the scenes bad guy. I like the sound of all of that so hopefully those rumors are true.
I like Cooper as Norman Osborn but man this cast is getting pretty big. Shades of Spiderman 3?

I can’t believe the first one didn’t get more hatred. I though it was terrible, so my hopes for this sequel aren’t riding high already

Chris Cooper is the ideal person to play Norman, and I can’t wait to see his transformation into the Green Goblin. I am beyond excited for this movie; I have been coping with my excitement with Blockbuster @Home from DISH. It’s so quick to update my queue and get my movies, giving me the perfect way to relax after my busy work day at DISH. I also really love that I can do in store exchanges if I forget to send back a movie and can’t wait. Watching the movies has helped pass time until this film, and I can’t wait to see how Chris Cooper makes this role unique.
They should throw Doc Ock, Kraven and Vulture in got a full Sinister Six

When I first saw the photo of Cooper above, I thought “Why the hell is there a bear in a suit in Amazing Spider-Man 2”? Then I realized that was from The Muppets!
That’s just Harry in a bear costume, playing a prank on his good ol’ poppa. Oh those Osborns, what a fun bunch.
Cooper is a fantastic addition to any cast. I just hope they keep him in a behind-a-desk type villain role. Not only would it match up with the modern comic version of Osborne, but it would keep the suspension of disbelief at a manageable level. Even with today’s special effects, I don’t think any rational adult with believe that a man Cooper’s age is flying one of those hoverboards, serum or no serum.
