Brooklyn Brewery Crafts Beer Just For NYCC

In a move as pleasant and surprising as the Ben Folds Five reunion concert, Brooklyn Brewery Brewmaster Garret Oliver has announced that he and his team are cooking up something special for New York Comic Con.

Last year at NYCC some of my favorite memories were spent over a pint with people up until then I had only known online. This year you can do the same and better yet you can do it with a beer brewed especially for the occasion. The Defender is be a hoppy amber IPA available for a limited time on draft only, and will featured in taprooms around the convention center (I really enjoyed Pony Bar, for what’s it worth). The beer has a custom logo by Milton Glaser and the eponymous superhero is drawn by Tony Millionaire.

I’ve written before about the parallels between craft brewing and comics, but never did I expect those parallels line to cross; let us hope the trend continues. Will the brew be present at the iFanboy party? Only time will tell. And if you are fortunate enough (and old enough) to get your hands on a pint, let us know how it went down in the comments!

  1. You gotta love Brooklyn Brewery. I’m gonna check Rattle’n’Hum or Ginger Man to see if they got these on tap. I love the Pony Bar, but it’s too far west.

  2. That’s great, but now was it actually brewed in Brooklyn or in Utica?

  3. I like Brooklyn, but why does it have to be an IPA? but what do I care? It’s not like I’m going, or will ever drink it.

  4. Sometimes not living in the US sucks… I love Brooklyn beers. Their “Local 2” is amazing and their seasonal beers are great too.

  5. I love comics., I love Brooklyn beer, and I love the Pony Bar. I’ll be on alert for this.
