Attention! Some Books Aren’t in Stores Today Due To a Fatal Traffic Accident Involving a Diamond Truck

As we mentioned earlier this week in the New Comics post, last week there was a tragic traffic accident involving a Diamond Comics Distributors delivery truck. This is causing some books to not show up in certain regions of the country.

Here’s the official statement from Diamond:

On April 21 at approximately 3:30 a.m., a Diamond truck was involved in a horrible head-on collision caused by a car driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 71. The driver of the car died at the scene, while the two drivers of the truck sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Please be aware that, due to this tragic accident, a number of titles and items that were on the truck and scheduled to arrive for sale on May 2 will be unavoidably delayed.

These items –- including new product, reorders, and Free Comic Book Day titles — are now scheduled to arrive in stores with an on-sale date of MAY 9.

A partial list of the affected product, grouped by New Product and Reorders, and alphabetized by description, is given below:

AVENGERS X-SANCTION HC
BELA LUGOSI TALES FROM GRAVE #2 (RES)
DANGER CLUB #1 VAR CVR 2ND PTG

Something similar happened back in January of 2010.

So if you live in the affected regions (at this point we know it’s definitely effected parts of the northeast) then hang tight. Your books should arrive next week. And remember, having to wait an extra week for some of your comics pales in comparison to what the families of the victims of the accident are going through.

Comments

  1. I’d love to have some sympathy but I’d prefer to have my comics and not someone that is driving the wrong way on an *interstate* at 3:30am. I’m just glad the Diamond folks were OK.

    • Really? Your comics are more important that someone’s life? Doesn’t matter how it happened or who is at fault, someone is dead and you’ll have to wait a week to get your funnybooks. Maybe in that week you can find your priorities.

    • I agree but I’m still a lil bumed out just cause I wont get them next week ill have to wait two weeks and I am srry someone lost a family member and somone they love

    • Wow… That’s all I can say is wow. That has to be one of the worst examples of humanity I’ve ever seen, you should be ashamed of yourself.

My sympathy goes out to the family of the person who lost their life in this tragic accident, as well as to the family of Zhurrie for being related to such a calous unfeeling human being.

    • I’m not trying to sound careless and unfeeling if it was I who tht was aimed towards I do feel bad that this tragady has happened and whoever the fault is placed on I think diamond could have done more to get the books out and not delay it effects the consumer and the companies.

    • sometimes im sad for humanity…

    • Wow. Maybe the human race is doomed.

    • matthewAskirble Zhurrie are totally right.

Diamond obviously should have anticipated a fatal car crash and that some selfish, uncaring douchenozzle would be forced to wait a week for a title or made to buy it digitally while in his pajamas on the couch.

    • “buying digital comics in pajamas on the couch rather than being able to buy them in the store”

Classic first world problems. Life is just so hard sometimes.

    • I’d say everyone made their point. Let’s not pile on further please.

  2. I wonder if ill be effected in PA

  3. My condolences to the family of the departed. For those of you who are interested. The comics which did ship on the above list are in terrible condition on the East Coast. Some are bent, nearly all have spine creases and color breaking defects.

  4. OK, three of the above four comments are absolutely ridiculous. A person died. Say your condolences and be done with it.

    • I did not account for how many people would respond to the first post. I’m solely referring to those that are selfish enough to be more concerned about comics than a human life.

    • I am srry my condolences do go out to the family but I have no emotions to someone i never knew or know there name thats the type of person I am and i think diamond could have done more to get the books on the list out on time

    • Thank you for displaying for everyone exactly what a psychopath sounds like.

    • im not entirely sure you know what a psychopath is. Maybe you meant sociopath, but even then, I’m not sure you know what that is.

  5. i was going to make a comment about digital comics but then i saw that there was a serious accident that resulted in death. Forget the comics, my condolences to all those involved

  6. my sympathies to anyone affected by this tragedy.
to wait a week for a book is nothing. no sympathy there.

  7. Holy crap this sounds awful. But at the same time i wonder if this was avoidable and who is to blame? 3:30 a.m.? Man i’m sorry anyone had to die in this thing. A week late is no problem. But, geez, what a horrible thing to happen.

  8. I’m sorry but I’m gonna have to agree with Zhurrie. Yeah it’s sad that someone died, but until someone can give me a logical explanation on how the fuck you get on an interstate going the wrong way, I will not feel that bad. It was 3:30 AM, and the driver was probably drunk or something. Otherwise I don’t know how the hell else you could be stupid enough to get on the wrong side of an interstate.

    • And I don’t mind the wait, I just mind idiot’s who don’t pay attention while driving.

    • Am I the only reading that the truck was heading in the right direction, and a car was in the wrong direction?

It feels like people in these comics are somehow blaming Diamond for this.

  9. Man, I feel bad now for complaining last week. If this was the same accident then it caused a delay of all the comics in South Texas going as far north as Austin. My condolences to the families and all affected.

  10. what an awful tragedy. Lets all take this opportunity to reflect on who and what’s really important in our lives.

  11. This was an informational post, and when we have more information, we’ll share it. But I’m killing the comments in here, because they’re just getting silly.
