AQUAMAN: The ‘Smallville’ Spinoff That’s No Longer a Spinoff

As discussed last week, there has been speculation towards an Aquaman spinoff coming out of Smallville. Variety has more information about the show including:

“And while Smallville recently generated great ratings with an episode featuring an appearance by Aquaman, the new project won’t be a spinoff. To underline that point, Alan Ritchson, the actor who played Curry on Smallville, isn’t under consideration for the role in the pilot.”

Thank god they’re not using the same actor.

I have to wonder if this will work. Smallville has been great because of its spin on the classic Superman origin, but I wonder if 7 million people each week will care about Aquaman. Smallville has been a success, but does anyone even remember Birds of Prey?

Comments

  1. Severing from SMALLVILLE and creating a completely new continuity? God, that’s DUMB DUMB DUMB.

    This show is DOOMED.

  2. Okay, I’m highly confused. Why Aquaman? If it doesn’t have to do with the actor’s appearence on SMALLVILLE, why are they doing it?

  3. Bingo.

  4. *head/desk*head/desk* So, so, so stupid!

  5. Rich Johnston has the casting sheets for the Aquaman pilot:

It includes a character named McCaffery, who is an Atlantian living on the surface, watching over Arthur. He’s the Obi-Wan character.

Looks like this might be more like the comic book character than previously announced.
