Apparently, he’s not so fast after all: ‘The Flash’ finally comes to DVD

After 15 years, The Flash has finally arrived on DVD today!

15 years? God, we’re getting old.

When I was a young lad, between this show and Batman, it was as close to comic book fan nirvana as you could get. I loved every minute of this show.

I will now patiently wait for a boxed set of The Human Target.

Comments

  1. That’s two “getting old” threads in a row.

  2. Did you ever see that show?

  3. Not since it was on the air. I remember being really excited for it, but then I don’t remember what happened. I think it was on at the same time as the Cosby Show and perhaps even early Simpsons. I don’t remember much about it honestly.

I know I must be a disappoinment to you all.

  4. John Wesley Shipp!

  5. You’re right – it was on Thursday nights on CBS and up against COSBY and THE SIMPSONS.

That, and the constant premptions for news on the Gulf War did the show in.

  6. I loved that show. I think the name they used for Mr. Freeze was like… Captain Cool

  7. And Mark Hamill played The Trickster! That was a great show.

  8. Captain Cold is actually one of the old flash rogues. He wears a scary parka.

  9. Was I the only one who watched THE HUMAN TARGET a few seasons later?

  10. The Human Target with Rick Springfield? No, you’re not. In fact, I think we’ve had this conversation before.

Looking back, the first episode was incredibly faithful to the miniseries.

  11. I loved the Flash, but his costume always bothered me, it looked to much like suede

  12. It looked like faux-suede, which is even worse.

And I have no idea what Human Target is. Wasn’t that a Vertigo book?

  13. I wonder how faux-suede reacts to the Speed Force? Does it make a swishy noise?

And how do you think, if the proposed Ryan Reynolds project goes through, they would do the costume modernly? CG? Body paint.

    Ugh. Sorry. Bad image.

  14. I know that Ron vehemently disagrees, but I think Ryan Reynolds would be an excellent Wally West.

  15. BAH! Ryan Reynolds. awful.
he would not make a good Wally West.

    Give me Eric Stoltz! 😉

  16. You realize that it’s not 1992 anymore, right?

  17. The rumors also have Jay Garrick and Barry Allen popping up as well.

How cool would it be to have John Wesley Shipp as Barry?

    Or even Jay?

But I think Reynolds would be good, as DC has characterized the Flash as arrogant, funny, pseudo-ADD, yet with a heart. I think Reynolds could fill that, but I also don’t necessarily think he’d be the ONLY option.

    It’ll be interesting.

I wanna see a GL movie now. Rebirth would be nice, as long as they don’t touch GL #1-6 (v4).

  18. Reynolds perfectly encapsulates Wally West. I can’t think of any known actor who would be better.

And he’s got the inside track as he is buddies with writer/director David Goyer.

  19. It’s like I don’t even know who you are anymore.

  20. I love Ryan Reynolds. He’s funny.

  21. ARGH! I need to come up with the cash for that. I loved that show.

It was Mike & Linda, dear friends, who came to dinner every Thursday. We’d eat, go pick up new comics at the comic book shop and then come back and watch The Flash and The Simpson. That was a good life.

*sighs* That was pre-Joker Mark Hamil, wasn’t it?

  22. Yes, it was.

It’s funny, I hadn’t really intended on buying this set until much later, but the longer this discussion goes on, the more my resolve is crumbling.
