‘The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes!’ – S02E04 – “Welcome to the Kree Empire”

Whenever the Kree show up, trouble is never far behind. Plus, all those Skrull spies won’t be too happy about it. Also, Ms. Marvel Captain Marvel!

Here’s how “Welcome to the Kree Empire” is described:

An envoy from the alien warrior race, the Kree, visits Earth to determine if humanity is fit to join the ever-expanding galactic empire or be crushed in its path.

I look forward to your thoughts, opinions, gripes, live-blogging, etc.

I love the cosmic stuff in the Marvel U and was stoked when Mar-Vell made his cameo in the 1st season, haven’t watched this episode yet but integrating classic kree/skrull war material with Ms Marvel involved is a smart blend to lend attraction to comics since she’s gonna be the new Captain Marvel pretty soon, which is a book I look forward too. Are they already calling her Captain Marvel on the cartoon?

Man, you really have to put up with some terrible commercials for these shows.

    The Kree’s have mustaches?

This was a great episode. Ms. Marvel being a part of S.W.O.R.D. and giving them Damocles base was a smart move. Loved Agent Brand being in there, and Gyrich (guy’s such a douche). I was definitely not expecting to see Ronan the Accuser so I loved that. Having Skrull-Cap just be completely unwilling to talk it out with the Kree was a great touch too. Best part though was Jennifer Hale voiced Ms. Marvel joining the team. Seriously the only downside to this episode was that it was actually an episode about Ms. Marvel and S.W.O.R.D. with the Avengers playing supporting roles, but I didn’t mind it that much. The Hulk nonchalantly informing Tony and Steve that aliens were invading was a nice touch.

For some unknown reason this isn’t airing until 5:30pm for me…

I do love that the Kree despise weakness but if you put up a fight they will destroy you utterly.
Ms. Marvel was fantastic and I love that we will be seeing more of her.

Am I the only one who feels guilty laughing at the re-edited Spiderman and his Amazing Friends clips?

We knew this from the end of last season though

Most of the cartoon shows of yesteryear had amazing or catchy opening music montages.Thats usually what got me to get hooked on the show. Batman Beyond, Spectacular Spider-man, X-men Evolution.etc, are examples of this. But, the recent ones barely have an opening theme (apart from Avengers:EMH, which has a not-so-cool opening in my opinion). Where did the age of the Opening Theme go? I miss it…

Can IFanboy do a top 5 list or poll of the best openings of tv shows based on comic books?

    • WacoKid says:

Wow, Batman Beyond, Spectacular Spider-Man and X-Men Evolution are your examples from “yesteryear”? Thanks for making me feel old. Also Batman Beyond and X-Men Evolution did not have themes nearly as good as Batman: The Animated Series and X-Men: The Animated Series. Man those shows were great.

Also I guess I’m in the minority here but I always liked this shows theme song, and seriously miss it. This new Nick Fury voice over intro sucks.

Agree w/ Waco…this show had a great opening them song. Now it’s replaced with a very short intro montage. Young Justice suffers an even worse opening. One of the YJ creators had said that this was handed down from executives….no extended openings. The creators all want to do them, but there is apparently pressure to keep it really brief.

The intro to Avatar the Last Airbender, and now the successor show the Legend of Korra, are also both VERY cool.

As for this episode…Man was this great. I LOVE Ms. Marvel, and they really did a great job nailing her character. Also, Abigail Brand was awesome. This is going to be a fun season.

As for openings, look all over television, most shows don’t have them anymore and if they do they last no more than 30 seconds. Show openings used to last 2-3 minutes! The are relics of the past, though. It’s an extra 2-3 minutes of time to use for the show or for a few more commercials now.

This episode was pretty cool, i will agree. Ms.Marvel is great in this.
I may not like the opening, but i do appreciate the show.
As for “yesteryear”, well I was categorizing shows when I was still in school, compared
to me now, a moderately functioning adult.

I did love Batman :TAS and the Superman openings too.
X-men also was a fav of mine when I was younger.

Was not a huge fan of this episode, and am not thrilled with the season so far. It is good enough to watch on the DVR if I have time but nothing about it really stands out to me. Granted one thing is I just don’t like Marvel Cosmic stuff. Also though compared to Ult Spider-Man this show just doesn’t have a “voice.” I hope that makes sense its early and I can’t figure out a better way to explain what I mean. I think that problem is a symptom of having a much bigger cast as opposed to USM which focuses almost exclusively on Spider-Man which makes it easier for the writers to give the show a more unique and signature feel.
