Grant McKay, former member of The Anarchistic Order of Scientists, has finally done the impossible: He has deciphered Black Science and punched through the barriers of reality. But what lies beyond the veil is not epiphany, but chaos. Now Grant and his team are lost, living ghosts shipwrecked on an infinite ocean of alien worlds, barreling through the long-forgotten, ancient, and unimaginable dark realms. The only way is forward. The only question is how far are they willing to go, and how much can they endure, to get home again?

And now for those some character designs and color roughs from the series:

Comments

  1. I guess Scalera’s leaving Hulk then. He had some great issues with Remender on Secret Avengers so I’m really looking forward to seeing what they do next.

  2. All over this, it’s going to be great.

  3. I find that character design to be a disrespectful and misogynistic portrayal of fictional alien frog women.

I can’t wait for this. Remender is on a roll and sci fi is where he truly shines. Throw Scalera in there and I just don’t see how this can fail.

  4. This is a title that I will buy.

And the release date is just about the time I’ll be reading Lovecraftian weirdness.

  5. Scalera’s really giving off a cool Rafa Albuquerque vibe here..

and am I the only one who thought chaos frog-people = D&D Slaad? 🙂

  6. Awesome. All I needed to read was the sentence, “Now Grant and his team are lost, living ghosts shipwrecked on an infinite ocean of alien worlds, barreling through the long-forgotten, ancient, and unimaginable dark realms.” This and Velvet have me drooling in anticipation.

    • Thankfully, you and a banner ad both reminded me to order Velvet when I called my store to preorder Black Science today.

I’m back on independent comics again: The Wake, Lazarus, Collider, Velvet and Black Science.

Just about done with the mainstream superhero stuff as far as buying it goes. Once again.

  7. This should be great. Remender did a fantastic, if very under-apreciated job on Doctor Voodoo, so I’ll bet he will nail this and them some. Gonna be hard to trade wait on this one. Art looks stellar too…whooo hoo!

  8. Okay, that art is fantastic. And I like the premise a lot as well. This is a definite pull.

  9. Loving the badass physics teacher vibe. Not matter what people say smoking does look cool!

But more freaky creatures with genitals! The lizard with the nipple ring is going to make this book awkward reading on the tube… Just hoping it’s not saga levels of awkward!

  10. So happy to have Scalera on a title I’m stoked about. Been following his work for a while online & at cons. It’ll be nice to hold it in print. And that Remender guy… he’s no slouch.

Gonna have to shell out for that Robinson cover too. Man, this is everything I want in a comic (that isn’t Prophet)!

  11. I am 100% on board for this one! Looks great, I’ve been loving Scalera on Hulk.

  12. Love everything about this already, title, creative team, synopsis, Remender doing indie again, maybe getting some of that timeless pulp in here like Fear Agent had and Matteo Scalera has quickly become one of my favorite artists since the best Sentinel images I’ve seen in years in a cpl issues near the end of Remenders run on Secret Avengers.

  13. These are really lovely. Image is putting out so many good books right now. On my last pre-order the majority of the books were Image. I don’t think that has ever happened to me before.
