BOOM! Behind the Scenes: HIGHER EARTH #5 Cover by Frazer Irving

Tomorrow sees the release of Higher Earth #5, featuring, on at least one of the variants, this cover by Frazer Irving. BOOM! has happily provided us with this look at Irving’s cover process.

When you’ve got a guy as unorthodox as Frazer Irving, in comparison to other comics and obviously in a good way, it’s really fun to see what it looks like throughout the process. So enjoy the view from the editor’s desk.

  1. This is the fist time I’ve heard of this book. This looks really cool! Can anyone tell me what the premise is?

    • Per Boom!:
“Heidi, a girl born in garbage. Rex, a soldier gone rogue. The only thing between them and their destiny is an empire of a hundred different Earths, across a hundred alternate timelines. One majestic planet dominates them all: HIGHER EARTH.”

      …and Wikipedia:
The story is set in a multiverse where many parallel Earths exist, one of which is Higher Earth: a world that has conquered 99 other Earths from alternative timelines. It is a follow on from Humphries’s 2011 comic series, Our Love is real. The story revolves around a girl named Heidi and a rogue soldier called Rex. Rex is present from the opening scene where he is falling from the sky onto an alternative earth which has been designated a “junk” world. He is introduced as being committed to a quest of vengeance against an unspecified opponent. Heidi is introduced as a tough young woman who so far has only known the “junk” earth, where garbage is continually falling out of the sky.

      Sounds like fun.

  2. Irving is incredible. One of my favorite artists working today. SO unique.

  3. love this cover. frazer irving continues to impress me every time i see his work. this weeks issue of batman, inc. he really shined as well. between irving and noto on cover duties for higher earth, they might have the best covers of any books on the racks.
