October 8, 2012 5:28 pm I remember reading this back in the early 70's, as a child in the UK, in the marvel reprints that were coming out then. Awesome stuff. I learned to draw superheros by copying this stuff, I still draw mouths the way Kirby did.
October 8, 2012 5:21 pm I was experimenting with digital before the new 52, playing with CBZ/CBR downloads and some comixology stuff.I went digital with the new 52, pretty exclusively. The Flashpoint titles were my final concerted effort at physical comics from DC. There are some physical comics I still purchase because they were not day and date and I wasn't sure when they would come out, but these were Dark Horse comics. My philosophy is Digital for new if it is day and date, physical if not day and date (although this list is getting smaller and smaller). Physical back issues for older comics not yet available digitally (I collect old JLI runs), and CBZ/CBR reader for older public domain golden age stuff (Black terror etc). I will buy trades that are not available digitally. I have a lot of trades, especially stuff I started collecting before digital became so prevalent. I also like the fact that after a month, the digital cost gets reduced, and i have taken advantage of cheaply priced story arcs on special offer. I didn't do digital before the iPad. Storing an iPad is easier than filling my house with book cases.
September 12, 2012 2:52 pm Jimbojones06. I use a local book binding business. I gather upto four sets of arcs that I want bound (anything from 6-18 issues per "bind"), and have them do a hard bind for me. For me, this allows me to store my comics on a book shelf, not a box, allows me to pull and read when I want and keeps the pages pristine.
September 11, 2012 9:55 pm I have trades I read again and again. My approach with single issues is to get the ones I want and then make my own hard binds, which again I re-read. I did a final collection of DCs flashpoint in single issue form, bound what I wanted and then switched to digital for DC. I still occasionally buy runs of single issues to follow a story arc from yesteryear, but again I buy these with the plan to bind. I buy trades if they aren't in digital, but also look out for digital omnibus's (omnibii?). Planetary came out as a decent digital omnibus recently, great for re visiting. I think the only physical issues I am collecting now, with an eye to binding, are Buffy and angel&faith season 9. I welcomed digital due to the savings in storage. I also welcomed digital music, digital books (kindle 2owner) and now do most movies/tv shows in digital format also. A 2Tb hard drive is smaller than a bookcase and an iPod/ kindle combo is a great way to read, listen and view. I do hunt down old trades, but these are for stories I have a vested interest in, that form part of a characters story. I went through a phase of collecting everything that ted kord appeared in, and also try to get a good sense of Ray Palmers Atom over the years, gathering trades, archives and single issues that fell into easy thematic binds. Digital comics may have saved my marriage ;)
February 1, 2012 1:41 pm My wife bought us the original softcovers of Gaiman's "Sandman" which she really enjoyed, she relishes the adaptations of Stephen Kings Dark Tower which are given as Xmas gifts every year as new volumes get collected, and is currently reading the adaptation of "Game of thrones". She has also suggested that the adaptations of the "Wheel of Time" would be good gifts for her. Other than that, she sees comics as essentially 'boobs and violence'. She tolerates me buying the kids the DC for kids stuff, like "Batman: the brave and the bold". So essentially, if she is interested in the story she will read it as a comic/graphic novel. She has no interest in traditional superheroes, but enjoys and appreciates the 'form' if used to tell a story she is interested in.
