The Black Widow with my brother was a man. A very tall man. I've never dressed up as the Black Widow, or dressed up at a convention at all.

I have to say, I'm a little creeped out that you think I look like a man in drag.

July 21, 2009 1:15 pm You might enjoy this novel, called How I Became Stupid, about a man who wants to become stupid so that he can be happier.

@daccampo If you like good grammar in your scifi, try Iain M. Banks or Neal Asher.

@DarkKnightDetective: It's definitely a favorite, can't watch that film too many times. "Time to die..." So beautiful.

@GarthEnnisClone: I'm with you on the new films; "Batman Begins" and "Dark Knight" were wonderful, the closest thing I've ever seen to a perfect realization of the books I've always loved. Thanks for commenting, despite your difficulties, and lots and LOTS of luck with school.

@Jurassicalien: With the new casting announcement, I think the cartoon Green Lantern could be a hell of a lot stronger than the movie...

@SteenAR: First of all, I can't believe that you happily read an article which stated that Josie and the Pussycats was a great film, and didn't think that that was weird of Ron.

@conor: Yeah... not quite with you there mate... Almost. But it's hard to say, since sharing an apartment with my little brother (who watches cartoons almost exclusively) has made me kind of sick of cartoons. Just for a little while.

@Paradiddle: Crime done right can be great, but it'd definitely the thing I read or watch the least overall.

@chlop: I never saw that, it sounds disturbing. I used to read those books when I was a kid, don't like to think about how gross Obelisk would be as a real-life adult male.

@Brian: I know what you mean, I read a whole slew of stuff.

Now you mention it, there's got to be a strong element of unconscious "deliberate self-harm" (DSH) going on with a lot of these heroes. There they are, all sad and tortured by whatever trauma drove them to don the cape/spandex/adamantium/gamma rays/whatever in the first place. That pain can't simply be vented by beating up others, some of it has to turn inward, (especially on some of the more stoic, angry heroes. Batman, I'm looking at you.)

You've given my superhero penchant a whole new dimension. Thanks Jim!

July 10, 2009 2:57 am Thing is, it's not just the wait for this issue, it's that the first two issues were put out as a single book a few years ago. So I've been waiting to find out what else happens for bloody years already.
July 9, 2009 4:41 pm @loganalpha: Almost too embarassed to admit this, but I actually did address why a human woman might want to, (but phyically couldn't), shag Superman. I ain't proud.

@drakedangerz: They all wish I'd go back to writing goofy top ten lists about all the naked men in comics... or something like that.

*sigh*

@loganalpha: Believe me, I'm surrounded by people who dabble and I like it. There's a big difference between them and someone who literally says "I love comics! I'm a huge comic book fan." and then follows it up by talking exclusively about movies and cartoons, adding "Oh, I don't read comic books.". It's logic. How can you tell me that you enjoy reading something you've never read?

@0and18: Definitely. Manga and Scott Pilgrim. And you'd be getting laid.

July 9, 2009 2:06 pm

@stulach: Hey, at least he likes them. Maybe you can start sending him care packages to further his comic book education? Maybe he'd enjoy Kingdom Come?

@chlop: I'm going to say this once again (but I've already said it twice in the comments here and once in the article): I LIKE PEOPLE WHO DON'T READ COMICS. What I object to is people who PRETEND to like comics, but have actually NEVER READ them.
