Name: Molly McIsaac

Bio: I am a 12 year old boy stuck in the body of a 20 something woman. My apartment is full of action figures and long boxes, and my video game collection frequently topples under the weight of itself. I see most of my life through a lens, and the things I can't document with my camera (you know, like my brain) is churned out into constant verbose chatter.

December 6, 2012 3:40 pm Just to play devil's advocate: cosplayers spend hundreds, sometimes thousands of dollars on costumes, investing hours and hours of their personal time to constructing these works of art. While to you it may have seemed like "just a light bump", the wings may have been fragile and she may have had people running into them all day. She may have been at her wit's end. Cosplayers dress elaborately because conventions oftentimes have masquerades or costume contests that involve massive cash prizes or qualifications for the world cosplay summit - a massive international competition that culminates in the finalists from different countries going out to Japan for the final competition. However, a lot of these costumes generally take HOURS to strap yourself into, so while they wait for judging/the competition, they should also be allowed to experience the con.
December 6, 2012 3:20 pm You should go back and do some reading of other articles I have written. There have been some awful remarks made by professionals lately that have blown up the internet. I suggest googling "cosplay misogyny" and seeing what you find. One of my pieces made it to think progress, see here: http://thinkprogress.org/alyssa/2012/10/30/1108631/creepshots-cosplay/
December 6, 2012 2:51 pm A fellow member of the ifanbase actually asked me to write an article on this topic, so obviously continued discussion is needed for some.
November 15, 2012 6:56 pm You obviously haven't been privy to the Tony Harris controversy: http://www.bleedingcool.com/2012/11/13/hey-quasi-pretty-not-hot-girl-you-are-more-pathetic-than-the-real-nerds-tony-harris/
November 15, 2012 3:54 pm Uh, no. We're geeks who like dressing up. Most cosplayers have boring day jobs and aren't actors in any way.
November 15, 2012 2:47 pm I want to SO BADLY, but it always falls on the same weekend as PAX (which is in my Backyard!)
November 15, 2012 2:33 pm People generally attempt to embody the characters. I am ALWAYS method acting when I am in cosplay.
November 15, 2012 2:32 pm That's actually Curtis who does "Dragonball Z Abridged"
November 15, 2012 1:22 pm That's actually a REALLY good idea. I'll do that next week!
November 15, 2012 1:17 pm When she pulled that face when I pointed my camera at her, I couldn't stop laughing. It's why the pic is slightly blurry!
