May 24, 2010 12:29 pm I swear to God, I made a Siege Perilous joke in my head a couple of episodes ago. That is to say, my thoughts exactly. Great article.

I have to give it up for the ifanbase in this discussion. I went from reading one violently negative thread on a different webpage, to this wonderfully positive breath of fresh air. Thanks for reminding me that not all comic fans are over-obsessive jerks.

And yes, the trailer has me very excited. I was kind of holding my opinion on the film until I saw some actual moving footage, and this looks pretty good, keeping in mind there's only a couple lines of dialog and this is 2 minutes of a possibly very long movie.

Is it me or does the actor in the flashback of the Comedien look like Robert Downey Jr.? I know it's not, but for some reason the actors look similar.

July 16, 2008 10:13 am Great list. I'm right there with you on the dislike of Ra's zany scheme to destroy Gotham. There had to be an easier way to take out, but you know villains, they always have to take the path of most resistance. I would add that number 5 on less right list would be the part in the chase sequence when Batman turns off the lights on the Tumbler, and suddenly the cops can't see him. What!?! That whole chase was well done, but still kind of pointless.

Haven't gotten to Powers yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I do wish that it was on more of a regular schedule, but I'm more forgiving of that than other people.

I have a feeling it's going to be hard to beat Final Crisis: Requiem in my mind for POW. I've never read that many Martian Manhunter stories, and it had me choked up. A very good issue, and the example of what a good tie-in should be.

I'd recommend the first volume of Blade of the Immortal. It's a nice more or less self complained story that gives you a good feeling of what the series is all about, even though the series takes a lot of twists and turns. The basic plot for BotI is that there's a samurai who is unkillable and must repay his murder of a bunch of cops by killing a thousand evil men. But like I said that's just the start of the story.

I'd also recommend Junji Ito's Uzumaki, which is a creepy as hell horror story about an issolated Japanese town that starts going crazy. It's nice and short at three volumes, and is one of the only actual nightmare inducing comic stories I've ever read.

And as has been said, Akira is a worthwhile masterpiece, and Battle Royale is pretty fascinating and has a great translation by Keith Giffen and the new edition should give you an idea of how the story goes.
