January 31, 2013 6:52 pm My first Geoff Johns' Flash issue was 220, the beginning of Rouge War. It was the beginning of the arc but the ending of Johns' run and with a shit load of back story that I didn't know (I knew the basics, Barry was dead, Wally was the Flash, he runs fast, that's about it), that made me get the next 4-5 issues so I could see the arc in its entirety as well as hunt down every issue of the Flash by Johns, it still is my favorite comic book run ever. What I mean to say is if the first issue in any series that you get is compelling you will be interested in the story as a whole and hopefully will want to know more about what happened before (maybe with back issues, trades, Wikipedia, the Internet, etc) and will get you interested in what follows, so even if Flash 220 may not have been the best "jumping on point" that so many titles try to get every now and then, it managed to make a life-long fan out of me.
January 23, 2013 12:08 pm I agree Alfred would be too obvious but still, maybe the serving tray and then there's a punch line? Like any great joke you play with the idea of the punch line in subtle ways and then BAM! you let loose, so maybe when Bats sees the tray empty or with something not so "obvious" he turns around and sees Alfred death in a horrific way (or someone else, I'm open to suggestions :P). January 17, 2013 12:00 am I think I've seen *some* reviews of Fables on IGN, certainly not of every issue but every now and then, or at least I think I have. If you've read up to the Inherit the Wind arc then you have to check out the Cubs in Toyland, it captures what you mention you like regarding "what's gonna happen next" since now the cubs seem to be the main focus, it was really good and a great ending, it also has Bucky's art so what's not to like? ;) As for Fairest, only the first arc was written by Willingham (I liked it a lot), then there was a single issue story involving Beast and Beauty (it is supposed to be canon and VERY important, I'd recommend at least checking this one out) by Sturges, and the new arc, which I'm not liking that much is by someone whose name I can't recall, it has to do with Rapunzel, I'd try to get the first 7 issues or at the very least Issue 7. If I remember correctly Willingham once said that Fairest involved the "fairest in all the land" and that didn't mean that it would be an "all girl main character" story all of the time. Anyway, I'd give the main series another shot and check out the first seven issues of Fairest :)
January 16, 2013 6:23 pm @IthoSapien The first 12 trades are awesome, with the crossover they lost a bit of steam but Vol 14, "Witches", is still one of my favorite arcs (it has to do with some of my favorite characters being in the spotlight here as well). Vol 15.(Rose Red) and Vol 16 (Super Team or something like that) are good and a direct link to Vol 12 where they fight Mr Dark. Vol 17. "Inherit the Wind" and Vol 18 "Cubs in Toyland" are very good and they recapture some of the magic from the first four trades with the main focus being Bigby and Snow's cubs. if you liked the first trades you might also want to check out the firs Fairest trade, it is pretty good, the current arc ... not so much (IMO of course),
January 16, 2013 12:36 pm A lot...for starters, I own every single issue from James Robinson "Starman" and I've only read #0, American Vampire, every single issue but I have only read the first issue (really liked it, that's why I got them even the mini series), the first three trades of Alan Moore's "Swamp Thing" and everything else in single issue...havenĀ“t read anything yet but I'm sure I'll like it I just want to be able to allocate some time to those series in particular. Maybe with the American Vampire hiatus I'll read them all so I get pumped when it comes back. On the up side, I'm pretty much up to date on the current releases (except Animal Man and Swamp Thing, I'm at issue 8 or 9 on both but still bought them every month).
December 26, 2012 12:33 pm The first thing I thought after reading this issue was "Layman pulled a Kirkman", that's a good thing by the way.
October 19, 2012 4:06 pm Both of Scalera's drawings are awesome!!! They remind of both Albuquerque and Sean Murphy.
September 26, 2012 12:26 pm From Invincible, I don't think outside Angstrom Levy and the Viltrumites there are any villains (so far) that are a real threat to Invincible, don't get me wrong, I really like guys like Tether Tyrant but they just make the random appearance, get beaten, another guy shows up, repeat(Invincible still is my favorite super hero comic btw).
September 26, 2012 12:23 pm Regarding Kingpin, would you say he is more of a spidey villain than a Daredevil villain? Just wondering...
September 26, 2012 12:21 pm Just like Captain Cold once said: "They say a hero is only as strong as his villains. Meaning the Flash is more powerful than the whole Justice League of America combined. " My vote goes for the Rogues!
