six - I don't think they've announced it yet so I probably shouldn't be talking about it... but I saw pages today and... oh man, very good stuff.
@nick - probably a bit, but I seem to be carrying the same attitude with me into stuff I write only as well.
And thanks guys!
@baggo - I'd be shocked if Aguirre comes back - I thought all the political garbage most MNT coaches have to put up with would have done him in for good. I hope he doesn't, he's easily the best coach you guys have had since Bora. Ah, Bora... what a crazy SOB.
Ferreti would be an interesting choice.
BTW, have you seen what the Mexican pre-hex, World Cup qualifying group is going to be: MEXICO, CANADA, HONDURAS (with Suazo this time) and JAMAICA. Rough.
@Youngday - Well, he was no Luis Hernandez, but he was easily in my top 5 most hated Mexican players list. I just hope they don't hire Peckerman to be the new coach.
@Nick - No PLUS news right now. Not even sure when it's coming out, but it will be this year - promise.
@target 242 - Some EPL... If I have my pick I'd rather watch Spanish football. It's more open.
@Monibolis - Any Mexican coach that comes in promising consistent wins against the US is going to fail. We're just too focused on Mexico to let that happen. It's a little silly actually, but that's rivalries...
Nick -
1. It's what I've always wanted to do, so it was more of "it's time to stop wasting years and get to work" as opposed to "I think I could do this"
2. Each project is different. Just writing is fun, but if I only did that I think I would get frustrated, so I'll always do some art along the way - and on those projects, I don't see the art and words as separate distinct elements - just different pieces that make up one homogenous 'thing'
Fine by me : )
@MILK - yes, I would very much like to do a soccer story at some point, but it would probably have to be for a European publisher as that stuff simply won't sell in the US. Oh, BTW, there is a lot of soccer and baseball manga - you should check it out.
@DOSSAMPSON - I get your point and it's the same one many, many people have been making - it's just not the point I'm making. No one is saying it was right - In fact, most everyone is saying it was wrong, or lazy, or whatever excuse you want to use. That's just not the point I'm making.
@MIKEHASELHOF - Good points!
@NICKMAYNARD - You suck, but I used howtomakecomics.net 3 times this week ;)
@SIXGUN - You're a prince - I owe...
And to be clear...
It's a much greater sin to use swipes/homage/etc for interiors than exteriors. Cover art is cover art - it sales the book, it's NOT comics - that's the stuff inside. The interiors are the much bigger sin here not the covers.
@JOSH - To me, it remains a body of work thing. And to add, Marvel, et al obviously have no problem with this... The photo ref argument is not going anywhere anytime soon.
@ERIKL - Thanks for the input.
@ULTIMATEHORATIO - Sorry you missed out, couldn't be helped - just wait for the trade I guess...
@JIMVANHISE - That's not exactly correct... http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/2008/02/28/comic-book-urban-legends-revealed-144/
Jesus, I bet this is a huge word balloon - like something out of an over-wordy-self-absorbed piece of bleh like PAX ROMANA!
Hey guys,
Long Night of writing, so I just got up.... I've briefly read through your comments and I'll pick some out to answer specifically after I send of some emails, but I wanted to point out one thing:
The point of this article is not to excuse what Mr. Mack did in New Avengers - that's not the argument I'm making. it's to point out that there is an entire body of work, one just completed, that implies that this is an aberration - Not pattern behavior.
Okay, I'll be back...
And did someone just quote Bono up in here? ;)
@Labor - Red Mass was actually on time. It was Image's idea to hold up for a bigger summer release. And, of course, I'm all over Big Numbers...
@Nick - I also would kill for a Morr or Bendis/Hickman book... And I quit my job the day I got a deal at Image... And you should pimp your website!!
@Dan - funny
@Mistersizzle - Thanks, man!
@Prose list... that's tough without breaking it down by genre... I'll think about it.
