Yes , digital piracy is stealing , But it is a hard thing to convince people of, as the traditional ways of thinking about theft don't apply .I saw an example above of stealing candy used as an equivalent , But it doesn't quite fit . Its more like you have a machine that can replicate the candy in unlimited quantities after you bought the first piece ( even pirates have to buy at least one copy) . So now you have what is essentially a counterfeit item . Which is why i find it more useful to think of it as counterfeiting rather than theft.
